LMI Aerospace has announced it will purchase D3 Technologies, Inc., a design and engineering firm located in San Diego, CA, for $65 million. The leading aerospace supplier plans to utilize D3's existing engineering talent base to develop lighter composite aircraft components. The deal is expected to close in August. With this acquisition, LMI Aerospace has stated that it will be on its way to evolving into a design and manufacturing company. Because D3 is currently working on lucrative projects such as Boeing's 787 Dreamliner and Lockheed Martin's F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, LMI has been looking forward to making these projects joint efforts. LMI plans to fund the purchase with around $25 million in cash and will raise the remaining funds through a revolving credit arrangement with Wachovia Securities.
