Carpet comes in two basic types : loop pile and cut pile
LOOP PILE carpets have a surface with individual strands of yarn pulled through the carpet backing, creating a loop.
CUT PILE carpets have a surface where the yarns are cut at the top, leaving tufts of yarn that stand straight up.
CARPET PADDING
Padding increases the durability of the carpet. The best padding is generally thin and dense because it provides the optimal combination of firmness and support.
RATING SYSTEM
The P.A.R. (performance appearance retention) rating system is a scale to measure the durability of carpet. Based on scale of 1 to 5:
Rating below 2.5 - Light Traffic
Rating between 2.5 and 3.5 - Medium Traffic
Rating above 3.5 - High Traffic
