Privacy should be a top priority when designing an outdoor shower. Walls 5 feet or higher and fences will give you privacy while taking up the least amount of space.
PLUMBING
Depending on the design and local building codes, there may be drainage issues to consider. Hot water can be supplied from your home plumbing or from solar or electric water heaters. The showerhead should be durable stainless steel or brass to stand up to weathering.
SITE
Showers attached to the home are less exposed to the outside elements and are less expensive to build. Choose a site near your home, close to a hot water line from inside the home.
MATERIALS
Choose materials that can stand up to weathering, like cedar, pressure-treated lumber, concrete or stone. Outdoor units often contain soap dishes, benches and towel racks. Some even feature a separate changing area.
