Density is how tightly carpet fiber or yarn is packed together and bound into the carpet backing. Dense carpets will resist crushing, repel stains and dirt buildup better, and wear longer.
YARN TWIST
Twist is the number of times fiber strands are twisted together in a 1-inch length. Look for a tight twist, not loosened and frayed at the end. In general terms, the tighter the twist, the longer the carpet will wear before it begins to crush.
NAP HEIGHT
Pile height, or nap, is the length measured from the primary backing to the yarn tips. Shorter pile longer height is more crush resistant; gives your carpet a newer appearance.
CUSHION/PADDING
Density, not thickness, is the most important quality for cushion quality and performance. It helps carpet resist matting and crushing, and prolongs its life.
