The first step in any paint matching is to wash all the walls with soap and water. Dirt blotches and smudges on the walls can make matching virtually impossible.
- Let the walls dry thoroughly. Using a utility knief, cut a 1-square-inch sample of paint to be matched. The cleaber tge cut, the easier the patching.
Take this sample to the paint store for matching. If a perfect match isn't possible, then choose a slightly darker paint. Buy a small can of the same type of paint in pure white. Start with the store-matched paint, then add white paint in increments to achieve an acceptable color match.
- Expect many trial paint mixtures until you zero in on an acceptable match.
