Slate is formed by the high temperatures and the great pressure of Earth's crust. Slate is a fine-grained metamorphic rock that characteristically splits into sheets. Its main constituents are quartz, chlorite, mica and calcite.
Types
Slate stones are available in natural, honed and polished finishes.
NATURAL/CLEFT : A slip-resistant finish that is achieved by grinding the stone down until it is flat.
HONED : A slip-resistance alternative polish. This is just like natural finish, except the points and ridges have been softened.
POLISHED : Machined to give the material a smooth, shiny and glossy appearance. Has smoother look and feel that resembles polished marble.
BENEFITS
Slate title flooring is easy to clean and maintain, and provides outstanding insulation from both heat and cold. It is highly resistant to damage, as along as it is applied to a solid base.
