According to the Federal government study, engineering jobs will still be in demand and each year the job growth increases.

Today, there are 17 engineering fields recognized by the Federal government. Engineers have an important role in every aspect of manufacturing, research, education, aerospace, mining, information technology, and construction industries. Every year, hundreds and even thousands of bridges, buildings, houses, high tech products, planes, computers, and other countless materials are developed and built.

Here are the top engineer jobs in the United States today:

• Aerospace engineering deals with the design, manufacture and testing of missile systems, aircraft, and spacecraft. Aerospace engineers for space explorations, aviation, and defense system develop new technologies. They specialize in design, instrumentation, control navigation, structural, and communication. They also design and develop aircraft, helicopters, rockets and missiles, and fighter jets.

• Agricultural engineers are often called biological engineers because of their knowledge in science and technology using biological resources for agriculture. They develop designs for agricultural machineries, new technologies for crop storage, processes, and sensors. They are also involved in food, environmental and structural engineering. Agricultural engineers mostly work in development, management, research, and sales.

• Biomedical engineers apply practices and principles of engineering, medicine, and biology to design and develop procedures and devices that help resolve health and medical problems. This type of engineering jobs works in the healthcare industry. They design, research new products such as prosthetics, artificial organs, and health management systems. Biomedical engineers also design imaging equipments such as MRI and ultrasound.

• Chemical engineers work in the chemical manufacturing firms that produce chemical products. These chemical products are used in food, clothing paper manufacturing, electronics, plastics, etc. chemical engineers are employed in healthcare, business services and biotechnology companies.

• Civil engineers are responsible for the construction and better designs for dams, roads, buildings, bridges, and airports. Civil engineering is one of the oldest engineer jobs. They are usually employed in research, education, transportation, construction, water resources, and the local government. Civil engineers can be assigned to a construction site or hold an administrative position or supervisor position as a city engineer.

• The keyboards, mouse, printers, microchip, routers, everything you see in your computer is the work of a computer hardware engineer. Computer engineers design and develop computer hardware and other related equipment. They often work in research labs testing circuit boards and other components. Micro chips and new designs in computers are rapidly getting more and more advanced, thanks to computer engineers.

• Electrical engineers are responsible for designing, developing and testing electrical equipment. This equipment includes radar and systems for navigation, electric motors, lighting, controls, and electrical wiring in the buildings. They specialize in manufacturing power and electrical equipments.

• Creating and developing ways to improve and solve environmental problems is the work of environmental engineers. These engineer jobs are mostly available in the local government branch. They deal with soil and water contamination. They conduct test and analyze water, air, and soil to determine the extent of damage. Environmental engineers also protect wildlife and help prevent environmental accidents. They are also advocates of recycling and overall environmental protection.

• Some engineer jobs are involved in designing, maintenance and constructing naval water crafts. Naval architects and marine engineers are responsible for massive government projects from basic ships to aircraft carriers. Shipbuilding industries employ ship engineers or marine engineers. They operate and supervise the production of these watercrafts and other vessels.

Some industries may hire many types of engineers for every department, from design to production and after market support. They provide valuable services and products to protect, enhance, and boost productivity in every industry. Other important engineer jobs are mining inspector engineers and safety engineers, industrial engineers, materials engineers, mechanical engineers, geological engineers, nuclear, petroleum and electronics engineers.

Hiring managers would look at the resume like we would at a cereal box that would make us decide which one to buy. As the product has to stand out, candidates should also possess the skills and traits hiring managers are looking for to answer their job postings. Therefore, it is important to assess your skills by using words that will grab the hiring manager’s attention because these words are the key that will make you unique for the position.
