Position Summary:
This position will be responsible for project development, design, application, management, and implementation of capital projects. Projects will cover a diverse range both in scope and area depending on specific engineering discipline ( Packaging, Process, Mechanical, Electrical or Civil ). Position is required to make decisions concerning plant layouts, equipment selections, project schedules and cost requirements. Directly responsible for capital projects up to $ 3.0 MM. This position will be supported by other Engineers & additional technical personnel as indirect reports. This position will also be responsible for managing outside engineering and construction management resources.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
Develop and manage capital projects including cost savings, equipment and facility upgrades, new product manufacturing, capacity expansion, manufacturing re-deployment, food safety technologies and distribution expansion.
Assists in the development of project concepts into quantitative and qualitative proposals consisting of preliminary equipment specifications and layouts, utility services, control schematics, manpower requirements and viable alternatives.
Estimates and/or acquires detail costs associated with project completion and start-up. Estimates and/or acquires savings attributed to project completion and operation.
Prepares project proposals consisting of general description, available options, justification and estimated completion date.
Develops detail specifications and layouts for equipment and facilities. Designs mechanical systems including piping, valving and controls. Designs electrical systems including power distribution, control wiring, computer applications and programs and emergency controls. Designs systems integration assuring required communications and interfacing of inter-related areas. Coordinates design work on portions of projects assigned to other engineers and/or outside engineering firms.
Obtains proposals for specified equipment and mechanical, electrical and installation work. Issues purchase orders and/or signs contracts for prescribed equipment and work.
Coordinates and directs installation of equipment and services with equipment suppliers, service contractors, and production and maintenance personnel.
Performs and/or schedules equipment and systems check-out and start-up. Ensures any required changes are performed and properly noted.
Performs and/or provides training for supervision, production and maintenance personnel on proper operating procedures, safety considerations and devices and preventive maintenance requirements.
Provides all available documentation including equipment manuals, mechanical and electrical drawings, parts lists and specifications and vendor/service numbers.
Provides maintenance assistance when required due to complexity of equipment or request from maintenance personnel.
Maintains project budgets, approves payments and authorizes charges.
Report on status of projects and estimated completion dates
Maintains project information files and equipment/service supplier files.
Attends seminars and conferences on a variety of topics providing exposure to new equipment, systems, technologies, and techniques.
Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably Packaging, Process, Mechanical, Electrical,
Food Processing, Manufacturing, Chemical or Civil) or other related field preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years work experience in engineering required. Experience in the food industry preferred.
Prefer exposure to mechanical systems, refrigeration, construction, meat processing and packaging and government regulations.
