Senior Scientist, Impact Forecasting - Wind Vulnerability in Chicago!The wind vulnerability modeler will be part of Impact Forecasting vulnerability team focused on the development of vulnerability solutions for atmospheric perils. The role responsibilities include, but are not limited to development, calibration and validation of wind vulnerability functions, detailed claims analysis etc. The position is full-time and is located in Chicago, IL.Role Responsibilities:Develop vulnerability functions for atmospheric perils (using simulation and/or claims) for different regions based on building inventory data.Development and calibration of bespoke vulnerability functions.Use Impact Forecasting proprietary loss modeling platform ELEMENTS in estimating loss.Actively collaborate with R&D team and software development teams in all aspects of the model development.Provide critical analysis of modeling results for internal validation of models and explaining results to clients when needed.Implementation of the model into unified catastrophe modelling platformSkills and experience that will lead to success:M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (required).Proficiency in data analysis and excellent programming skills in MATLAB, Python, or R (required).Problem solving skills, collaborative attitude, willingness to learn (required).Experience with MS products – Word, PowerPoint, Excel (required).User level experience with SQL, ArcGIS, QGIS is useful (preferred).Experience with catastrophe modeling (preferred).How we support our colleagues: In addition to our comprehensive benefits package, we encourage a diverse workforce. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
