This is an exciting chance to be part of a progressive and cutting-edge University in a beautiful location, where you can really make a difference! The School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics is the home to our Mechanical and Marine Engineering subject disciplines, which together with Civil and Coastal Engineering, Navigation, Computing, and Mathematical Sciences, provide a vibrant inter-disciplinary and collaborative environment dedicated towards producing graduates with the necessary applied knowledge and skills to meet the demands of employers today and tomorrow. We are looking to develop our vibrant Mechanical and Marine Engineering community through recruitment of a Lecturer in Control Systems Engineering. We are looking for individuals who will contribute to maintaining a welcoming, inclusive, diverse and inspiring environment for our students and whose expertise will complement and enhance our existing research capabilities in Mechanical and Marine Engineering. The School has an international research profile in offshore renewable energy, marine robotics, composites materials and coastal engineering, with access to excellent research facilities. The University’s £19m marine building, which opened in 2012, houses exceptional marine testing facilities within the state of the art wave tanks and a new full mission ship bridge simulator. The University also operates a High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster to support numerical modelling and CFD applications. These facilities are further to others within the School and Faculty that include a New Engineering and Design Facility (NEDF), an over £50m investment for Engineering and Design at University of Plymouth, which will host our new Control and Robotics Lab - now is an exciting time for you to join our department! As a Lecturer in Control Systems Engineering you will be expected to variously develop, manage and deliver research and teaching modules of the highest standard to enhance the reputation of Mechanical and Marine Engineering at University of Plymouth. You will be required to contribute to the development of learning materials and the planning and implementation of emerging best practice whilst teaching across a range of Mechanical Engineering areas, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We are looking to enhance our current expertise in Control and Dynamics related to Mechanical Engineering and Marine Technology, Marine Systems Engineering, and Autonomous Systems. You will have a clear idea of your research vision, how this builds upon our current departmental portfolio, and the ways in which it may influence our future direction. You will be equally passionate about teaching, with a willingness and enthusiasm for accepting and implementing new approaches in this area. You will be expected to secure external funding to support your research activities and to publish your work in leading international journals. You must hold a PhD degree and have post-doctoral research experience. Industrial or commercial experience would be especially welcome and have, or be working towards, Chartered Engineer status.
