Job Description

Overview of the Role:

As the Senior Engineering Manager - GIS Platforms, your role will be to provide strategic leadership and technical expertise in the development, implementation, and management of our core GIS platform, ESRI. You will manage a team of GIS engineers and analysts, collaborate with team members, and drive the successful delivery of complex GIS projects. Our team's mission is to provide configurable, interactive tools that empower our users to make meaningful business decisions and useful processes based on our in-depth knowledge of the physical and logical plant topology; the person filling this role will be critical to achieving our ambitious, business critical mission.

Core Responsibilities:

Creates and maintains a system of metrics and reporting standards to measure and report the real-time results of workflow and practical application of technical standards.

Analyzes results of metrics and reports to determine effective work processes and standards and identify flaws. Develops and enacts solutions to work process and standards flaws.

Maintains knowledge of industry standards and emerging technologies and procedures.

Directs the daily and overall performance of department projects. Delegates responsibilities when necessary. Ensures projects are completed on time and within the given budget and in accordance with company standards.

Manages direct and dotted-line reports. Acts as a resource for technical and workflow issues. Mentors and guides staff, ensuring access to ongoing training programs, policies, operational procedures and guiding them in building their technical and communications skills.

Makes business-impacting decisions at the beginning level.

Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in GIS, Geomatics, Computer Science, or a related field.

Extensive experience (8 years) as a GIS Engineer or GIS Developer, with a solid focus on ESRI technologies.

Demonstrable experience in a managerial or leadership role, with a track record of successfully delivering complex GIS projects.

Expert-level proficiency in ESRI software suite, including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, and related tools.

Advanced knowledge of spatial databases, data models, and geospatial analysis.

Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide innovative solutions to complex GIS challenges.

Superb communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical team members.

Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to motivate and inspire a team, drive collaboration, and foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Proven project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

Strong business sense and understanding of organizational goals, with the ability to align GIS initiatives to support strategic objectives.

Job Responsibilities:

Team Leadership: Provide strong leadership to a team of GIS engineers, guiding and mentoring them in project execution, technical skills development, and career growth.

Strategic Planning: Develop and implement the strategic vision for GIS initiatives, aligning them with organizational goals and industry standard processes.

Project Management: Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of large-scale GIS projects, ensuring attention to timelines, quality standards, and client requirements.

GIS Solution Architecture: Collaborate with team members to understand business requirements, design GIS solutions using ESRI software, and define the system architecture and integration points.

Technical Expertise: Possess deep expertise in ESRI software suite, including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, and related tools. Stay updated with the latest ESRI technologies, trends, and emerging GIS technologies.

System Implementation: Lead and oversee the installation, configuration, and customization of ESRI software products, ensuring optimal system performance and integration with existing systems.

Data Management: Develop and implement robust data management strategies, ensuring data integrity, standardization, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with multi-functional teams, partners, and clients to gather requirements, provide technical insights, and ensure effective communication and alignment throughout the project lifecycle.

Quality Assurance: Establish and enforce quality control processes and standards to validate GIS solutions, data accuracy, and system performance.

Research and Innovation: Stay abreast of emerging GIS technologies, industry trends, and standard processes, and drive innovation within the GIS team to enhance processes, tools, and methodologies.

Budget and Resource Management: Manage project budgets, allocate resources effectively, and optimize resource utilization to achieve project goals.

Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks and issues related to GIS projects, proactively addressing challenges to ensure successful project delivery.

Our mission: Build and maintain the core data, platforms, and tooling to empower our users toself servewith targeted, meaningful, engaging, and flexible applications. Comprised of engineers and GIS analysts, we focus on maintaining the ESRI platform, expanding and optimizing its infrastructure, and building map-based visualizations to provide insight and decisioning tools to a number of internal customer personas.
