Job Description:

The purpose of this Regional Hydrogen Reliability and Maintenance Engineer role is to deliver the Asset Management System Maintenance Execution and Reliability Program implementation in the regional Hydrogen Mobility set up, and to drive performance improvements on existing and future mobility assets by using and analyzing field data in alignment with the regional and local Operations Engineers. This position is ideal for those seeking to solve issues in a process driven and analytical way of working.

Shell Hydrogen Mobility is a rapidly growing business to Royal Dutch Shell (RDS) and requires structured operations and maintenance excellence to ensure safe, reliable and cost-effective, low-margin operations at scale. The Hydrogen Mobility Operations team manages Hydrogen refueling stations for serving Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (passenger cars, busses and trucks). The current portfolio of stations consists of JV and Shell Owned stations in Europe (90 stations in Germany, 3 stations in the UK, 1 station in NL), and in the United States (8 light-duty stations in California with 50 more planned, as well as heavy-duty stations). The business is also planning to rapidly expand its portfolio of stations in Canada, China and Asia Pacific, especially as government legislation mandates targets for decarbonization in the transportation sector.

The global Hydrogen Reliability & Maintenance team loves learning, being committed to improvements and is highly motivated to deliver the defined Reliability and Maintenance Objectives with the focus on operation excellence with outstanding customer experience.

What is the role:

Working under the direction of the Global Hydrogen Reliability and Maintenance Manager the Hydrogen R&M Engineer is accountable to:

Developing and implementing Asset Care Plans for the Hydrogen business, ensuring that the assets are sustainable with best in class reliability by focusing on proactive maintenance execution rather than reactive

Leading the yearly refresh of Hydrogen’s Asset Care Plan and ensuring site strategy application is fit for purpose and localized

Serving as the Reliability Management Focal Point interfacing with other integrated work processes such as Manage Projects, Ensure Safe Production (ESP) and Maintenance Execution (ME)

Providing coaching and training on ME work processes and tools, integrating with the Hydrogen Data Platform (HDP) and Reliability Excellence teams

Assuring that site's threats to asset availability are identified, prioritized & mitigated in a timely manner with appropriate risk assessment

Ensuring that threat mitigations have the correct scope and breath to be effective

Leading Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) discussions to resolve complex threats / issues

Leading / facilitating Causal Learning Investigation

Creating a learning culture to identify potential threats before they become reliability hits

Assisting digital implementation for Hydrogen Mobility (i.e. predictive maintenance, monitoring, CMMS), building and leveraging a strong connection with data analytics teams as necessary

Developing and reporting out on Maintenance Execution KPI’s

Establishing an Exception Based Surveillance program utilizing advanced data analytics to alert staff of possible adverse conditions.

Finding fit for purpose solutions that balance business goals of safety, cost, reliability, and sustainability

Working with cross-business Hydrogen Teams (Products, Projects, and Business Development) to feedback opportunities for continuous improvement in design

What we need from you:

This position is ideal for those who like to work in a challenging but extremely rewarding new business.

It requires the individual to have the following capabilities:

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

Bachelor’s degree in related Engineering discipline or equivalent is required

Minimum of 5 years' experience in Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, or Discipline Engineering is required

Sound working knowledge of end-to-end operational aspects of Hydrogen Refueling Station assets, including HSSE and process safety, experience in Causal Learning is desired

Deep experience and competence in engineering and asset management, including implementation leading to visible performance benefits.

Familiarity with reliability concepts and demonstrated experience in improving reliability at a business unit level.

Tested strong analytical skills with experience of complex problem solving

Demonstrated knowledge with digital applications such as Power BI is a plus

Competent to work in a challenging multi-site environment where willingness to be on site, work with technical data teams in virtual settings, communication and teamwork across departmental boundaries are key to the successful completion of tasks.

Excellent commercial mindset and solid customer focus

A strong competence to manage business performance

Solid communication, stakeholder and change management skills.

Additional Information:

The successful candidate is preferred to work out of the San Francisco area. Position will require travel within North America and the flexibility in working hours to manage communications across time zones in order to influence and support stakeholders and enable business performance. However, flexibility in recognition of diverse family situations will be considered.
