What’s the role?
This role is part of the Shell IT’s Connectivity Portfolio team. The mission is to support run & maintain and projects activities as a Network Engineer under the renewed model.
The Network Engineer is expected to be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) covering the application of telecommunications and network technology deployed across the Shell Group. This scope covers Shell’s Projects & Technology businesses, foundationally at the Shell Technology Center Houston (STCH) location (including consultation support to Shell Catalyst & Technology locations) as well as various types of projects including capital projects and IT projects.
The purpose of the Network Engineer role is to participate in run & maintain activities and delivery of network elements of projects. The Network Engineer will be the key person for all telecom and network elements.
The key Accountabilities are:
Accountable for run & maintain activities across the site
Resolve site break-fix service tickets and ongoing request ticket workload
Play a consultancy role for input to site project efforts
Work with PM to review and qualify network and telecom requirements
Work with the design team to review requirements for completeness and risks
Participate with handover to operations (ATO)
Knowledge sharing and drive continuous improvement across the community
Accountabilities:

Site Network Engineer may work small project (single technology) or larger (cross-technology) integrated projects with accountabilities for:
Providing PMs input for creating project charters with defined project scope, deliverables, milestones, required budget and governance.
Manage agreed deliverables against a project charter, or approved changes through the applicable project/program governance.
Consult and/or review requirements based upon specified functionality (e.g. cabling, construction or electrical)
Consult with or seek input from architecture & portfolio for standards
Review and develop deployment or testing strategies aligned with business readiness and IT delivery timelines
Participate in activities across multiple teams consisting of IT delivery, installation, and testing
Share knowledge obtained and learn as part of natural teams across architecture, portfolio, design, network engineers, technical consultants, operations and service management, amongst others.
Site-Specific Accountabilities:
The Shell Technology Center Houston (STCH) HOU-WTC site is not a standard office building environment. The site contains many laboratory and experimentation facilities. As such, the site requires a few different types of networking nuances specific to these facilities:
Additional run and maintain activities:
Connectivity to Labs and Process Control environments (non-Shell VLANs and network segments, 3rd party connections, etc.)
Consultation for network landscape across Projects & Technology remote sites (e.g. Port Allen, Martinez, Pittsburg, Michigan City)
Troubleshooting issues with multiple support teams (On-Site Support, Labs, Process Control, scientists, vendors, etc.)
Assist in testing, connectivity, and troubleshooting:
Connectivity for meeting rooms, A/V and break room A/V
Connectivity for Conference room reservation boards
Phone systems (analog and VOIP)
Conduct recurring Safety-Walks of network spaces (approx. 50 IDF/network closets with routers, switches, UPS, etc.)
Working with a myriad of STCH-specific non-standard types of devices:

Gas chromatographs
Sensors
Air quality monitors
DSL, Guest WiFi
Hand-held scanners/wireless devices, CisPro/Zebra printers, permit-to-work, etc.
What we need from you
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer both now and in the future.
Minimum 8 years of experience in leading and executing Telecoms project delivery, Telecoms operations, or IT consultancy assignments to design, develop and deliver viable network and telecom solutions, preferably in Oil and Gas or similar industry with offshore experience preferred.
A high degree of technical network knowledge on traditional (IP) networks and systems as well as telecom solutions such as Satellite, Optical/Radio links, Wireless Canopy, Mobile Radio (DMR/Tetra), Microwave, Fiber Optics, Radio, Fiber, and Access Security/CCTV.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications or equivalent work experience.
Good understanding of OSI Model, TCP/IP protocol suite (IP, ARP, ICMP, TCP, UDP, SMTP, FTP, TFTP).
Knowledge of Layer-2 Switching, VLAN’s and Access-list.
Knowledge of WiFi, authentication, security technologies, Internet, SDWAN, MPLS and Voice over IP (VoIP).
IP addressing and subnetting and routing concepts.
Switches: Full configuration and VLAN setup on Cisco switches.
Router: Full configuration and monitoring of Cisco routers including VLAN’s.
Telecoms Industry knowledge with extensive experience in Networks and Telecommunications, Testing and Commissioning.
Knowledge of environmental and electrical safety in hazardous (IEC EX) that impact design of telecoms systems used in process plants; Upstream / Downstream IT infrastructure and telecom solutions e.g. Process Control/SCADA, Safety Critical Elements.
Knowledge of project delivery methodology for managing both IT and Capital Projects in Oil and Gas.
Proven experience in stakeholder and relationship management including external vendors
Ability to translate technical requirements and specifications into easily understood business concepts and vice versa.
Cisco router/switching/security certification, at minimum CCNP is an advantage.
Python programming and app development skills for programmable networks is preferred.
Experience working in an (partially) outsourced environment.
Awareness of Agile and Scrum methodologies.
Service Management processes (Support Models, Service Level Management, Contract Management and Supplier Management).
