As Product Development Team Lead, you will have a multidisciplinary role, in an exciting new industry that seeks to bring zero emissions mobility to all sectors of global transportation. You will be responsible for developing, differentiating and delivering new product offerings in light duty, heavy-duty, marine, and off-road vehicle applications by either adapting commercially available technologies and products or leading the development of innovative new technologies to perform in fit-for-purpose systems. You will also play a role in positioning technical solutions for rapid and effective commercialization and deployment of a growing portfolio of products. These new products will directly support developing Hydrogen business opportunities, making Shell New Energies the partner of choice in helping regions and countries to meet their emissions targets.
The PD Team Lead will have significant working relationships and visibility with business development, product development, project delivery, operations and safety functions in Shell Hydrogen. To deliver expected business results, a successful candidate needs to effectively communicate complex technical solutions and their inherent risks to a wide range of stakeholders both internally in Shell and in the wider Hydrogen community.
What’s the role?
You will be responsible for managing the portfolio of products in development, against the business opportunity funnel to ensure timely delivery into Shell projects. In addition, you will also be responsible for ensuring market definition, total addressable market, and launch timing are well understood which then should drive product development timing, features, and launch markets/dates.
As the PD Team Lead, you will ensure open and frequent communication with the regional commercial managers, operations, marketing, and H2 leadership drives product definition in addition to external influencers and data.
We see you as someone edgy, always seeking new ways of making the development process better, always looking externally to bring the best thinking into the group, always seeking to shorten development cycles, reduce cost, and make a bigger splash.
Other accountabilities include:
Serve as the CEO of the product
Identify new product opportunities, collaborate with business development, product strategy, and corporate strategy to validate new product concepts, and field new products in a cost and timeframe relevant to target markets
Handle external relationships necessary to deliver technology/capability/competencies required to develop and launch product
Manage vendor contracts, in partnership with contracts & procurement leads
Work with Marketing, External Relations, and Media to promote products, and differentiate Shell as a solution provider
Constantly solicit the voice of the customer, and incorporate that insight into compelling products
Use data analytics (both pre- and post-product release) to make data-driven product and system design decisions
Develop, lead, and execute product roadmaps
Build and break product teams as necessary, drawing from internal and external resources
Responsible for embedding safety in all aspects of the product development process. Will guide product teams through FMEA, HAZOP, HAZID, as neeed to ensure safety through design and process safety is not compromised.

What we need from you
We’re keen to speak to talented, passionate and customer-centric individuals with a blend of business and technical skills and the experience and savvy to work with Contracts & Procurement, Engineers, Finance, Business Opportunity Managers, etc. across different countries, programs and multi-functional teams to help build out Shell’s next generation of hydrogen technical offerings worldwide. You will be part of the New Fuels Hydrogen Product Management team. The Hydrogen product team has a global remit, partnering globally, deploying globally.
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or any related field. Advanced degree preferred.
Led or has been a part of a team that has successfully fielded at least one product with a high degree of safety exposure, maybe a consumer or commercial/industrial product.
Minimum 15 years of diverse work experience with technical, commercial/business aspects of product development required.
