JOB SUMMARY
DATA SCIENCE ENGINEER BIOSTATISTICIAN- HEALTH ANALYTICS
PERFORMS SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Designs minorly complex (or moderately complex with supervision) data solutions in collaboration with clients and other team members to satisfy the reporting and advanced analytic needs of the Carilion community, with optimized data management, data extraction, data exploration, data science, and biostatistics. *Develops and maintains minorly complex data solutions in collaboration with clients and other team members including data extracts, data analysis, data collection repositories, dimensional databases, and security infrastructure while adhering to technical solution standards and demonstrating flexibility when required. Designs and builds advanced solutions across Epic and other data sources, including the responsibility of tying together multiple systems in an agnostic environment for optimal data management and analysis. Applies analytic experience to address project and/or experimental design. *Selects appropriate solution tools, utilizing tools such as SQL, R, Python, SAP Business Objects, REDCap, TriNetX, i2b2/OMOP services, SAS, Matlab, Snowflake and Crystal Reports as required. Biostatistics solutions to include descriptive statistics, odds ratio, univariate and multivariate analysis, regression analysis and survival analysis. Data science solutions to include deep neural networks, machine learning algorithms, natural language processing, etc. *Implements new functionality and new solutions of minor complexity in collaboration with clients and team members. May work with cloud architecture technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, etc. as needed. *Adheres to Change Management policies and processes to include timely reporting of all pertinent change information, effective discussion of the changes, internal and external communications, contingency planning, support of the change event and post-change reporting
Under direct supervision, provides leadership in biostatistical collaboration, consulting, and education to physicians, scientists and staff working on clinical research or clinical projects. Provides professional statistical support to include research/project design, statistical analysis, and reporting. Serves in a pivotal role in determining and managing additional support to provide for the establishment of data collection tools, database design and administration, clinical data integration, data entry and outsourced statistics, as needed. Analyzing prospective studies and retrospective studies. Power analysis and sample size estimation, analyzing means and proportions, analysis of variance and analysis of covariance, experimental design, multiple regressions (linear and generalized linear models), modeling continuous data and categorical data, survival analysis, longitudinal data analysis, fixed effect/random effect/mixed effect models, model building and validation, survey data analysis, and bayesian methods.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, statistics, math, science, health care business or equivalent experience required. Master's degree required (or commensurate level of experience) and PhD preferred in discipline with strong research, measurement, and statistical training.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum: 1+ years of relevant experience required.
Minimum: 1 year working with enterprise data sources and research support tools.
Preferred: Research and healthcare knowledge. Working knowledge and experience with Epic and/or data management and statistical analysis tools.
Experience supporting technical service delivery relationships. Experience translating minorly complex research needs into designs and specifications. Experience managing projects, testing and quality control. Experience supporting application users. Experience with research application, data management and analysis tools such as Epic, SAS, R, Python, Snowflake, SQL, REDCap, TriNetX, i2b2, OMOP, Clarity, Caboodle, Enterprise Data Warehouse, Big Data, etc. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications such as Office, Project, Visio, SharePoint
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, AND/ORREGISTRATION:Maintain application vendor certifications as needed. Valid VA driver's license. Preferred certifications: Epic/equivalent EMR, SAS, R, Python, Snowflake, SQL, ITIL, PMP, CITI.
OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Intermediate knowledge of scientific methodology specific to clinical data. Requires proficiency using standard statistical and data management software to write programs to extract and manage data, perform analysis, and prepare graphical displays of data suitable for publication for moderately complex projects. Strong listening skills. Must have advanced interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communications skills. Must be able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization. Strong presentation skills clearly conveying information, ideas, concepts, and instructions to a variety of audiences. Meeting management skills including agendas, facilitation, minutes and time management Negotiation skills to resolve conflict and build cooperation
