Job Summary
The VIPER Packager Core Development team builds the core components of Comcast's IP Video delivery system. These components serve 100% of IP video playback at Comcast and all its syndication partners, including live TV, video on demand, cloud DVR, and emergency alert services. The software stack is deployed across multiple continents and serves tens of millions of subscribers.
Job Description
This role is for a highly technical people leader on the Super8 sub-team. In addition to managing the Super8 team, this manager will work closely with engineers and managers from the SRE and Managed Services teams, which develop and maintain the tools needed for end-to-end testing, deployment, and monitoring of Super8 and other components. This role will be essential in shaping the culture and practices of a growing engineering organization.
What You'll Do:
Coach and mentor five engineers of varied experience levels
Conduct one-on-ones and performance evaluations
Perform other managerial responsibilities, including budgeting, hiring, on-boarding, etc.
Contribute code in C and C on Linux
Read and review code contributed by others
Learn new technologies and systems
Collaborate with managers, engineers, and architects
Together with senior engineers, take ownership of a critical component from prioritization and planning through development, testing, and deployment
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What You'll Need:
Demonstrate empathy through active listening

Have 3-5 years of experience writing software in a low-level language like C
Hold a bachelor's degree in a relevant field or have equivalent work experience.

Salary:
Pay Range: $121,354.68 - $182,032.03
Comcast intends to offer the selected candidate base pay within this range, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience.
