Job Description:

Electrical Engineer, Offshore Substation (OSS)

The Wind Development team is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer, Offshore Substation (OSS) to join the team and support with the development of offshore wind projects with a focus on Low Voltage (LV) systems of OSS and their interfaces. LV systems consists mainly of switchgears, UPS, generators, motors, interlocks, lighting and marking, earthing, normal and emergency power supplies, safety systems, and other LV equipment and related interfaces with HV systems and other auxiliaries on the OSS.

The team member can work from our office in New York, New York, Boston, MA, or Houston, TX, or New Orleans, LA. There is also flexibility for this team member to be based in another US state such as Mississippi, Alabama or Florida with the ability to work remotely.

Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind, LLC (Atlantic Shores), a 50:50 partnership between Shell New Energies US and EDF Renewables. Atlantic Shores is comprised of purpose-driven professionals dedicated to delivering its 5 gigawatt offshore wind portfolio, strategically positioned to meet the growing demands of multiple east coast markets including New York and New Jersey.

Atlantic Shores has three offshore wind energy lease areas totaling more than 262,000 acres under active development and is the largest offshore wind project in the State of New Jersey and the third largest project awarded in the United States. Construction will begin in 2024 and first power is expected in 2027. Project 1 will generate enough clean energy to power more than 700,000 homes and bring $848 million in guaranteed local economic benefits to the state.

Responsibilities:

Lead the review of LV Systems through FEED, detailed design, and execution of the OSS works

Monitor technical compliance and reviewing calculations, drawings, and third-party analysis

Provide design guidance and technical verification OSS LV systems, including the review of contractor test plans, definition and review of employer’s requirements and technical specifications, guidance inputs for the design, procurement fabrication/construction, installation and commissioning phases

Supervise the technical and logistics interface with other packages and with HV system

Work closely with Commissioning team and Electrical transmission team in the preparation of commissioning plans

Actively participate in the development of the Scope of work for the RFP, in the technical review of the proposals and the selection of the main contractors

Support commercial and technical work with external vendors, including support the tendering and execution of RFI and RFP

Contribute to preparing schedules and cost estimates for OSS package

Interface with other technical, development, and commercial teams to ensure communication of required inputs and outputs

Conduct site visits during OSS Fabrication to ensure compliance with design, technical specifications and requirements. Ensuring that the LV systems work meets employer’s requirements and industry standard

Participate in project team meetings, due diligence review and cross discipline cooperation

Qualifications:

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

5 years of relevant work experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering

Strong Knowledge of offshore wind energy production, or equivalent experience in electrical systems in offshore oil and gas (O&G)

Strong knowledge of applicable US standards and regulations, strong advantage to have experience with the USCG, BOEM, and BSEE

Operation knowledge of LV systems, Diesel generators, UPS, LV switchgear, interlocks, and related interfaces with HV system

Knowledge of arc flash and other electrical safety aspects

Demonstrable experience in construction and commissioning of LV system

Working knowledge of protection systems and how it interfaces with HV protections

Ability to analyze drawings and document such as SLDs, schematics, LV schedule, BoM, interfaces and interlocks drawings, operation philosophy etc. and in identifying the vulnerabilities in the system

Ability to propose/perform design modifications in LV space to simplify the solutions and to reduce the cost

Ability to travel every month to an Atlantic Shores or parent office for 3-5 days at a time

The base salary range for this position is $122,000.00 - $182,000.00 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

Working Conditions:

During the development phase of the project, about 85% of time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment. Approximately 15% of the time is spent in the field nationally and internationally, visiting potential and existing projects, vendors and suppliers, and meeting with project team members. During construction, site visits or relocation will be adjusted as needed to support the project needs.
