Where you fit

As the Systems Engineer (SE) you will be the primary focal point for technical scope on a given project, therefore is responsible for design aspects of cost, reliability, performance, and safety.

The role will be part of the Global Hydrogen Product Development team, reporting to the Systems Engineering Team Lead.

The SSE will be responsible for implementing a strong systems and test engineering process throughout the lifecycle of a project.

The SSE will have working relationships and visibility with business development, product development, project delivery, operations and safety functions in Shell Hydrogen. To deliver expected business results, a successful candidate needs to effectively communicate complex technical solutions and their inherent risks to a wide range of stakeholders both internally in Shell and in the wider Hydrogen community.

What’s the role?

The Systems Engineer (SE) is a multidisciplinary role in an exciting new industry that seeks to bring zero emissions mobility to all sectors of global transportation. The SSE will provide technical leadership in support of all aspects of the Shell Hydrogen Business, including business development, product management, project delivery, operations, and safety. To accomplish this, the SSE will serve as the primary technical resource through the full lifecycle of high-profile opportunities and projects, serving as the technical counterpart to the Business Opportunity Manger during opportunity development and to the Project Delivery Manager during the project delivery phase.

In addition, the SE will provide test and verification support to the Product Development Team to assist delivering new product offerings in light duty, heavy duty, marine, and off-road vehicle applications. These new products will directly support developing business opportunities, making Shell New Energies the partner of choice in helping regions and countries meet their emissions targets.

Accountabilities

Evaluate and develop tier 1 suppliers globally and support the development of a tier 2 supply chain

Reduce cost of deployed systems and lower operating expenses by assisting the Reliability Growth Manager to collect and interpret data from Shell’s global refueling network

Support Hydrogen business development with opportunity framing, systems description, cost modeling, supply chain development and HSSE engagement

Lead system designs using commercially available sub-systems/components to enable business opportunities

Engage operations and reliability growth management to define goals and identify appropriate development partners to produce new components/systems which meet business and technical goals

Support global Hydrogen IP strategy by publishing, presenting at conferences, and filing patents

Use in-house tools and simulations to model system performance and, where necessary, to build new capabilities for use by the Hydrogen team

Perform should-cost analyses and assist supply chain development to reduce cost and influence product offerings

Work with the Product Development Team Lead to define and launch new product developments where capability/performance/cost/reliability gaps have been identified during opportunity and project development

Lead vendors by influencing the utilization of 3rd party test facilities, and building new work space capabilities to meet requirements

Requirements:

What we need from you

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

10 years diverse work experience with testing, integration, reliability and deployment aspects in regulated or emerging industries

Minimum 5 years working on design and/or implementation of complex technical systems or systems of systems

Deep and broad technical knowledge in several of the following areas:

Compressor systems

Process control

Industrial electronics

Modeling and Simulation

Thermodynamics & Fluid dynamics

Cryogenic systems

Electrolyzers

Steam Methane Reformers

Systems Engineering

Demonstrated ability to implement design for safety processes

Creating engineering development tests, and product qualification test for high value-low volume products

Creating and implementing hardware Integration plans

Experience working with facilities in creating new prototyping and experimentation space

Risk management analyses and trade studies

Clear oral and written communication skills to present complex value propositions to internal leaders and external partners
