The Senior Engineering Manager, HR Analytics

, will work very closely with the HR Transformation team’s HR Analytics & Reporting Product Owner. You’ll seek to understand HR use cases and data needs, identify the correct data source required and recommend solutions that ensure the data needed is where it needs to be, when it needs to be in the form it needs to be.

While much of your work will be within Workday and Workday Prism, your solutions could leverage HR data from Best Buy legacy systems and provide data to Best Buy’s emerging enterprise data platforms in support of enterprise-level analytics and data science initiatives. You’ll partner frequently with the Senior Engineering Manager, Employee Data Services, to ensure data from Workday is made available to the People Technology Platform team supporting over a dozen internal systems. You’ll keep abreast of trends in the industry, bringing new ideas forward for consideration and discussion amongst Best Buy’s thought leaders and technologists.

With solutions in hand, you’ll mentor and lead the HR Analytics & Reporting Engineering team to deliver, ensuring that solutions are well documented and in compliance with Best Buy’s Information Records Management and Data Governance policies.

What you will do as the Senior Engineering Manager, HR Analytics:

Lead the HR Analytics Engineering Squad

Build strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders across a range of HCM workstreams and Best Buy's Enterprise Data Platform.

Leverage your deep understanding of Best Buy's data models and data sources to provide the HR Analytics Product Owner with solutions that enable operational and analytical reporting and provide critical data to Best Buy’s internal systems.

Lead solution crafting, perform architecture reviews and ensure solutions comply with Best Buy Enterprise Risk & Compliance guidance. Your solutions will extract, load, transform and make available data from Best Buy’s HCM platform and expose it for consumption to a variety of systems.

Lead development of Workday Prism Data Sources to support Workday reports requiring data outside of Workday.

Lead development of Prism ELT pipelines to ingest data from identified data sources outside of Workday.

Actively plan delivery aligned to quarterly objectives using agile software development practices.

Ensure your team's services, and integration architectures are fully documented, and that the documentation is maintained.

Provide production support for your application and services

Recruit and build a team of 3-5 highly skilled, collaborative, and energetic software and data engineers.

Foster the career development of your direct reports via regular one-on-one's

Continue to refine your craft through continual learning and professional development

Minimum Qualifications:

5 or more years of software development experience with a Bachelor's degree OR equivalent relevant professional experience

Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and/or experience

2 or more years of experience with Workday HCM Reporting AND at least one of: PowerBI, Tableau

2 or more years of experience with Workday Integration technologies (EIB, RaaS, Workday Studio, etc.)

1 or more years of experience managing and leading engineering teams

1 or more years of experience delivering and supporting ETL/ELT pipelines in production

1 or more years of experience with cloud computing platforms such as Google Cloud, AWS, or Azure

Preferred Qualifications:

7 or more years of software development experience

Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering or related field

2 or more years of experience creating and supporting Workday Prism data sources and pipelines

3 or more years of experience developing services, microservices and serverless functions with Java, Spring, REST, SOAP

3 or more years of experience developing with Oracle and SQLServer datastores

2 or more years of experience with Solution Architecture or Technical Architecture experience

2 or more years of experience developing with Google Cloud Platform (especially GCS and Big Query)

2 or more years of experience developing with NoSQL data stores, such as BigQuery, Cassandra, MongoDB

2 or more years of experience developing with SQL data stores such as PostgreSQL, CockroachDB

Production experience working with both file-based and record-based PGP-encrypted data

Disciplined software engineering habits including: TDD, Automated Unit Testing
