Position Overview
The Brightcove engineering culture is tailored to software professionals who enjoy solving challenging product development problems. We are looking for a Senior Manager of Engineering to lead a small, self-organized group responsible for building and maintaining a high availability, cloud-based video encoding platform.
Job Responsibilities
Manage multiple highly-focused and effective global teams of 3-6 engineers.
Foster an effective, accountable and self-organizing team culture.
Hire and mentor world-class engineers - develop good engineers into great engineers.
Lead and deliver key engineering initiatives.
Coach teams by fostering best practices, such as design thinking, build/test automation, code reviews, metrics/data driven decisions, etc.
Identify and implement development process and methodology improvements to increase the quality of work products.
Work with Customer Support and Account Management to respond to customer impacting issues.
Work with Product Management and Product Marketing to contribute to the strategic direction of the products and roadmaps.
Be the champion of your teams.
Qualifications/Experience
5 years of software engineering leadership experience.
3 years experience with Agile methodologies and best practices.
3 years experience with cloud technologies including scaling and availability best practices; experience with AWS preferred.
Understanding of the full software delivery lifecycle: from developing and testing code to deployment and monitoring.
Ability to hire and develop software engineers.
Strategic thinker who sees big picture opportunities and can identify cross functional synergies and dependencies.
Architecture and hands-on software engineering background.
Understanding of building large scale, distributed, high availability systems.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and market conditions.
