Learn more about Splunk careers and how you can join our journey!Job DescriptionSplunk seeks a Principal Storage Architect to join the Network, Security, Platform, Infrastructure, Reliability, and Engineering Team. The team is responsible for designing, building, securing, and maintaining Splunk’s global corporate and development infrastructure within Splunk’s public and privately hosted compute platforms.The role will ensure the availability, stability, and integrity of Splunk’s storage infrastructure and backup services, concentrating on establishing enterprising solutions meeting industry best practices. The architect will develop standardized reference architectures, create security guidelines, author documentation, define lifecycle and operational support models, and lead the implementation activities to deliver highly available and secure solutions.The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation and experience deploying storage services supporting various environments. Strong interpersonal skills will be critical for this position, as the architect will frequently interact with senior leadership and fellow architects. The architect will also assist leadership in defining the future technology vision and keeping Splunk’s storage and compute environments state-of-the-art.Responsibilities:Assess the current architecture and work with the product leadership to layout the architectural roadmap for scale, security, and maintainabilityDetermine security requirements by evaluating business strategies and information security standards, conducting system security and vulnerability analyses and risk assessments, studying architecture/platform, identifying integration issues, and preparing cost estimates.Manage and support all hardware upgrades for our storage and virtual private cloud environments.Create and document storage infrastructure compliance standards, policies, and procedures.Design and implement the optimal test strategy for our services.Mentor other engineers and continually raise the bar on storage and backup practices across the multi-disciplined team.Required Education and Experience:12 years of storage and platform engineering experience, supporting extensive global multi-vendor enterprise infrastructure.Proven experience in building storage environments at the enterprise level.Proven experience in building storage and backup systems and highly available services.Mentor a small, high-impact, and multi-talented DevOps and SysAdmin team.Led the implementation and configuration of storage solutions, working with vendors and professional services as needed.Review solution architecture and lead the implementation of security solutions and configurations.Experience with NetApp, Commvault, and VMWare, including management systems such as SnapCenter, CVLT, vCenter, and Skyline.Experience using diagnosis and analysis tools such as SplunkStrong verbal and written interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to work independently and troubleshoot problems with speed and efficiency.Ability to self-motivate and manage/prioritize competing tasks.Strong customer service skills.Attention to detail and accuracy.Ability to work after hours to support projects and maintenance activities.Education:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experienceWe value diversity, equity, and inclusion at our company.
