Job Description:
What’s the role?
The successful candidate will be called Production Team Support Engineer (PTSE) inside Shell’s organization. The primary purpose of the role is to deliver year-on-year improvements to asset integrity, availability, and profitability in their assigned Production Units. To accomplish this, he/she is empowered to be the owner of mechanical equipment (rotating and fixed) in their respective Production Units.
Below are the 7 key areas in which the PTSE is responsible.
The PTSE is the first point of contact for the mechanical systems in their respective Production Unit.
Operations SupportWork with operations and maintenance to solve day to day problemsParticipate in Production Team meetings to stay aware of key activitiesSupport as key contributor for operational upsets
Critical Work ProcessesRisk Management: Own all mechanical equipment related threats/opportunities – mature/mitigate/realize.Management of Change (MoC): develop technical basis for design (TBDs), provide/facilitate tech assurance & hazard screening of design, lead startup reviews, and MoC close-out.RCM: Facilitate and continuously improve Equipment Care Plans.
Technical DeliveryDevelop plan and implementation tactics for mechanical equipment maintenance & improvements.Leverage technical acumen to outline detailed scope of changes to mechanical equipment. Assure compliance with Industry Standards, Company Design Practices, and local Site Orders for all plant changes.Utilize work processes to assess health of Mechanical Equipment –Ensure Safe Production (review production unit shift reports, perform DOW/Alarm management reviews)Managed Equipment Care (support completion of compliance inspections & implementation of mechanical equipment strategies)Proactive Technical Monitoring (review exceptions from operator rounds, assess vibration and oil sample analysis results)Preventive and Predictive Maintenance (drive compliance and optimization)
Problem SolvingChampion Causal Learning within the Production Team. Perform investigations on failures related to mechanical equipment.Utilize the Learner Mindset as a part of everyday working – fix it right !Identify opportunities to reduce waste in work processes using LEAN / Continuous Improvement methodology.
Business PlanningDeliver the multiyear Major Maintenance plan - Ensure it is credible, competitive, affordable AND will result in year-on-year improvement for asset integrity, availability and profitabilityEnsure mechanical equipment improvements for Major Maintenance items have funding in other areas of the business plan (capex, infrastructure opex, turnaround opex)
Project ManagementParticipate in monthly Major Maintenance Team meetings – provide updates on scope and plan. Contribute to decisions that are ‘ best for the site’ .
Turnaround Support (Note – turnaround-related tasks can vary based on assigned Production Unit)Support work scope development and field execution for mechanical equipmentCoordinate mechanical equipment surveillanceCoordinate Production Unit pre-startup reviews and commissioning activities.
Dimensions:
Technical Competence in both mechanical static and rotating equipment, including:Pumps, General Purpose Turbines, Seal Systems, Fin Fans and BlowersPiping Systems, Relief Devices, Bolted Joints Integrity and Temporary Repairs
BudgetThe PTSE is responsible for the development and delivery of their respective Production Unit major maintenance operational expense budgets.Monitoring spends on maintenance work executed in the production unit.Preparing and submitting well-considered repair and investment proposals to Asset Managers and Site leadership teams.
DeliveryIn order to deliver work, the PTSE will need to leverage a broad range of stakeholders:Production Team – Asset Manager, Productions Specialists, Operators, Maintenance Supervisor, Inspectors, Process Engineers. and Safety Representative.Central Engineering – Rotating, and Static Equipment Engineers and other engineering counterparts in Electrical, Civil, Control Systems and Environmental Engineering.Maintenance and Turnarounds – Planners, Execution Team Leads and Cost Controllers.Project Engineering.Additional – Finance Advisor, Capital Planning Focal Point, Contracts & Procurement.
KEY CHALLENGES:
This person must be able to work at all levels of the organization and have the appropriate skills to influence others on their Production Team.
Prioritize a high workload within the production team.

Skills & Requirements
What we need from you -
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering preferred.
Minimum five (5) years of related Manufacturing Industry experience, Petrochemical or Refinery experience preferred.
Experience with troubleshooting & repair of pumps, fans, blowers, & steam turbines.
Related experience in maintenance and reliability (including a sound understanding of Engineering and Maintenance processes).
Knowledge of the concepts of Risk Assessment, Reliability Centered Maintenance, Management of Change, and Root Cause Failure Analysis.
Strong trouble-shooting and analytical skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interface with personnel from diverse backgrounds at all levels of the organization.
Demonstrated skill of working with teams to achieve a common goal.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
