The Decision Scientist on the Supply Chain Strategy team is a key role within Best Buy Data & Analytics COE to drive transformational change in Best Buy’s supply chain. The contribution of this role directly impacts the customer and delivers differentiated value to Best Buy through innovative data capabilities and insights to highlight the opportunities present to optimize holistic Supply Chain processes and strategies. The team seeks a candidate with an extensive background in applying analytic techniques to solve problems in supply chain across domains of transportation, inventory optimization, warehouse process analysis, and network design.

Key Accountabilities

Utilize key operational and transactional data to create actionable insights across workstreams that will improve operational performance for all operating units, operating networks, and distribution facilities across the network

Manage the activities of creating and analyzing data, summarizing, and communicating to add value and optimize the supply chain

Lead the practice in evaluating complex end-to-end network design and optimization activities to resolve and outline impacts to the business

Partner with cross-functional departments and collaboration to integrate their data and business process into the network model framework

Support Analytics initiatives and associated decision-making in key supply chain planning and execution process areas

Use an extensive understanding of supply chain practices and procedures, review and monitor processes and ensure best practices are identified and shared between locations across all levels to provide insight and recommendations

Apply operations research. Statistical, and/or machine learning knowledge to specific business problems and data

Prepare and conduct presentations to stakeholders

Build relationships with business partners and deliver quality solutions. Strive to assist partners in uncovering additional areas of opportunity

Drive and deliver Supply Chain business cases

Key Skills and Attributes

In-depth knowledge of applying SQL in big data environment and using visualization tools

Demonstrate in-depth technical capabilities and professional knowledge in the respective functional areas of supply chain

Deep knowledge in one of the specific areas of expertise: strategic sourcing, category management, warehouse, and network design, manufacturing efficiency, product lifecycle management, demand planning, and outsourcing consulting

Experience using supply chain design & optimization systems and processes to drive improvements in business results

Working knowledge of optimization, simulation, data mining algorithms including machine learning techniques such as decision trees, neural networks, clustering, regression, etc

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, engineering, the physical sciences, computer science, or similar field with quantitative rigor

3 or more years of experience in retail, analytics, business, or related area

2 or more years of experience applying analytical techniques to answer business questions or scientific questions

2 or more years of experience in computer programming, SAS, SQL, Python, R, Tableau, and/or Power BI

Preferred Qualifications

2 or more years experience in the areas of Operations Research and/or Supply Chain Projects in sophisticated and complex environments

2 or more years experience of practical utilization and application of computer programming languages such as R, Python, C, Java

3 or more years experience in the field of applying analytics in supply chain

Exposure to Digital Supply Networks, Internet of Things, Sourcing and Procurement, Manufacturing, Product Development, Dynamic Fulfillment, and Synchronized Planning

APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM and/or CSCP) or equivalent with proven capacity to design and manage supply chain processes
