The ambition is for the integrated power business to be a material business across focus markets, including Brazil. Shell’s Integrated Power Strategy for Brazil is to continue expanding its growing power trading business as well as building-up its gas-to-power and renewable generation portfolios. To date, Shell has self-developed an extensive greenfield solar portfolio which is currently ready for marketing. Shell must secure long-term revenue agreements to commission the renewable assets in its portfolio.

What is the purpose

The Permitting Analyst will be accountable for supporting the Permitting Manager and Onshore and Offshore Renewable Project Developers in all permitting and environmental related activities in the Renewable Generation team in Brazil. She/he will coordinate and monitor all permitting work with external stakeholders and third-party contractors. This permitting analyst is accountable for executing and delivering the required permits and licenses for onshore renewable projects in Brazil.

What’s the role?

As a Renewable Generation Permitting Analyst, you will be responsible of the following duties:

Supervise the studies and develop all required permitting processes for executing renewable projects in Brazil.

Accountable for responding and validating any conditions precedent requested by external agencies.

Managing permitting timeline and ensuring Project Managers are coordinated and aligned with any permitting schedule change.

Performance permitting due diligence on any third-party M&A projects (including CSPA).

Accountable for maintaining permitting data room for all projects.

Perform land acquisition due diligence for new projects.

Identification, mitigation plan, execution, and management of permitting risks.

Coordinate internal stakeholders (environment and HSSE specialists, Social Performance Specialists, engineers, etc.) to advance permitting and preparation for construction/operation.

Interact and coordinate external stakeholders to obtain all necessary approvals.

Assist Permitting Manager and project developers in devising permitting strategies for green and brown field projects.

Perform Due Diligence on M&A processes.

Requirements

What we need from you –

Must have legal authorization to work in Brazil on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

At least 2 (two) years of demonstrated experience in environmental permitting of infrastructure projects

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Biology, Geography, Ecology, and any field related is required

Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary team including various contractors

Experience interacting with permitting agencies

Experience in field work

Strong communication skills, being able to present their strategy within technical and non-technical audience

Culturally sensitive and ability to build strong relationships with Shell, partners, and stakeholders

Ability to create trust and work well in cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams

Practical. Focus on solving problems and not just asking more questions

Willingness to travel at least 30% of the time and being able work efficiently and productively in remote locations

Resilient in supporting Shell to develop the first integrated renewable business in Brazil

Must be fluent in English and Portuguese
