Description: Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control division is seeking experienced engineers and research scientists with an excellent record of creativity in the design, development, and deployment of advanced algorithms within embedded systems to join our team in Orlando, Florida.

You will join or lead small multi-disciplinary teams of engineers and algorithm developers through the full lifecycle of product development (internal research and development, business capture, mission analysis, reviews, developmental field testing, performance assessments, and deployment).

Research and Development focus areas include but are not limited to: image processing, digital signal processing, matched filtering, detection theory, optimal state estimation, radiometric feature extraction, computer vision, machine learning, object recognition classification, electro-optical sensors, and GPU-accelerated algorithms.

The effective candidate will be a self-starter who is comfortable multi-tasking across a number of programmatic and technical responsibilities and work well in a collegial team environment among subject matter experienced professionals coming from a variety of academic backgrounds. Newcomers to the defense industry coming from academia as well as experienced candidates have historically integrated well with our team, so both are encouraged to apply.

The Locale: Orlando is a city in the Central Florida area. This region is a great place to live and to raise a family. Central Florida offers lots of attractive residential housing options. The Greater Orlando metropolitan area is the sixth-largest metro area in the southeastern United States. The climate here is warm and sunny all year long for the most part. Orlando is home to Walt Disney World, Universal Studios Florida, and SeaWorld. Orlando is also home to the second largest University in the US, the University of Central Florida (UCF). Where can you get to from Orlando? Orlando is located about an hour from Cocoa Beach and the Space Coast including NASA and the Kennedy Space Center. Tampa is about 1.5 hours from Orlando. West Palm Beach is about 2.5 hours to the south and Jacksonville is about 2 hours to the northeast. Atlanta, GA is 6 hours to the northwest.

Basic Qualifications:

Must be a U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain an Interim DoD Secret clearance to start.

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, computer science, applied mathematics, or similar with at least 4 years of professional experience;

AND

Thorough programming skills that can translate to development in a Linux environment.

Desired Skills:

A Master’s degree or Ph.D. from an accredited college in engineering or related discipline is preferred.

Coursework in linear algebra, probability and statistics, and multivariate calculus.

Coursework or professional experience in digital signal processing or image processing.

Proficiency in computer algebra software.

Experience with linear algebra software packages.

Proficiency in deploying algorithms that satisfy real-time performance.

Proficiency in the processing and analysis of big data.

Knowledge of infrared detection technology, radiometry, and imaging sensors.
