Senior SCADA and Automation Engineer
POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Senior SCADA Engineer and Automation to join our SCADA and Analytical Services (SAS) team. This position is posted in multiple POWER office locations but may have the opportunity to work remotely from any location in the U.S. based on technical depth and communication skills (please note in the application questions where you prefer to be located).
Roles and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for successful completion of assigned projects and for maintaining and improving client relationships as well as developing and growing new technical service areas. Completion of these functions requires technical competence in primary production roles as well as leadership competence in working with clients and mentoring and supervising team members assigned to projects. Assigned projects will include SCADA, automation, and communications for utility and industrial/commercial clients throughout the United States. Systems to be analyzed will include conventional and renewable generation facilities, substations, and transmission and distribution systems. Technical disciplines include the following areas:
Networking and Communications: design and configure network and communication paths for Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), Human Machine Interface (HMIs), PLC’s and other SCADA system equipment inside the substation or facility as well as paths to the data offtakers; specify and design communication networks including data security and availability; develop basic specifications for fiber optic, microwave, power line carrier, or radio communication paths; travel to project sites to troubleshoot and commission network and communication systems.
Applicable network and communication protocols: DNP, Modbus, SEL Communication Protocol, Goose Messaging, IEC 61850, TCP/IP, UDP, Ethernet, as well as legacy utility protocols.
Logic and Control Systems: develop, document, and implement logic and control schemes for remote and local operation of power system equipment (Remedial Action Schemes, Distribution Automation/FLISR, PV Solar, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Microgrid, Renewable Curtailment, Volt/Var Control, Load Shedding, Anti-Islanding, and other custom logic); develop programs on various platforms for implementation of these schemes; travel to project sites to test and commission the control schemes.
Applicable Logic and Control Platforms: SEL RTAC, NovaTech Orion, Cooper SMP, GE-D20, PLCs, IEC 61131, Lua, Python.
Data Acquisition: Prepare points lists of all data to be transferred between control centers and controlled apparatus, assign and program data addressing and routing information, develop Human Machine Interface (HMI) screens, travel to project sites to test and commission data transfer schemes.
Applicable Software: Wonderware, Clearview, AcSELerator RTAC, NovaTech NCD/Inkscape, Visual Basic, OSIPI, Python scripting etc.

Required Education/Experience
Requires a BSEE
Ten (10) years of industry experience
Desired Education/Experience
Preference will be given to applicants with a proven history of completing similar projects in a consulting environment
Preference is also given to applicants with experience in mentoring others and in providing technical and commercial leadership in customer focused engineering projects
PE or equivalent
