Position Purpose
What’s the role –
The Hydroformylation & Ethoxylation (HFE) Sr. Process Engineer provides technical support and leadership to the HFE operations module and is the lead technical interface between the plant and the Geismar Transformation office.
This role reports to the HFE/Logistics Process Engineering Supervisor within the Technology Department at the Geismar Chemical Plant and provides dedicated support to the site transformation office. Geismar Chemical is a stand-alone Chemical Plant in the USA. Geismar has a long term growth strategy, expects future growth projects. We leverage Shell proprietary technology to produce Ethylene Oxide, Ethylene Glycol, Alpha Olefins, Alcohols, Ethoxylates.
This position interfaces with stakeholders at all levels of the Geismar Chemical Plant, as well as external stakeholders in the Transformation office. Interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and ability to manage multiple interfaces with varying needs and priorities are critical to success in this position. Must understand impact of decisions on production, operability, safety, reliability and economics.
The following are the primary purpose and accountabilities for the HFE Sr. Process Engineer:
Process engineering lead for transformation efforts.
Change leader for projects in HFE from scouting and concept stages through providing technical support for the duration of the project
Embraces the transformation principle of a data obsessed operating model, centered around implementing disruptive ideas in agile ways that lowers risk profiles and increased predictability of results.
Utilize critical thinking to identify opportunities and drive results in new ways of working where tasks and activities are rigorously evaluated for simplification, elimination, and automation.
Provide backup technical support to unit support engineers assigned to the module.
Utilize analytical skills and production experience in supporting causal analysis and selection of technology for mitigation purposes
Participate in unit support teams as a technical contributor.
Serve as an HFE representative on site-wide teams as required.
Provide technical insight to unit production coordinator, training coordinators, day technicians, and inspectors, as appropriate
Provide technical support of operations activities with technical, maintenance, and HSE departments (second technical point of contact for run and maintain issues)
Ensure complete documentation of key technical work
Provide mentoring and coaching to Operations support engineers.
Skills & Requirements
What we need from you –
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis.
7 years direct support to manufacturing operations.
Engineering or advanced technical degree required. Chemical engineering degree strongly preferred.
Self-motivated and works effectively with minimal supervision
The HFE Sr. Process Engineer will need to blend fundamental process engineering technical skills together with an innovative mindset to achieve the site’s transformation and automation goals.
This role requires ability to collaborate with various disciplines and the ability to mentor engineers and technicians.
Ability to interact effectively within the site and larger Enterprise
Experience in Hydroformylation and Ethoxylation Process technology preferred.
