Position Overview

The Director of Transportation – Transportation is an

entrepreneurial minded

, data driven individual responsible for developing & managing Rent the Runway’s customer facing delivery and returns shipping strategy. The ideal candidate will be responsible for shipping cost optimization, lead UPS, Fedex, and Courier rate negotiations, and be positioned to scale a team to manage increasingly complex logistics network. This role will work with multiple business and technical teams across the company to develop a new network design, get finance/operations leadership approvals, and partner with external carriers to implement changes effectively and rapidly. We are seeking a leader effective in influencing leadership across retail leadership, customer service operations, operations leadership, technology teams, multiple carrier partners and senior leadership. Cross-team coordination, financial acumen, legal acumen, strong bias for action, project management, and executive presentation skills are essential.

Responsibilities

Lead all transportation shipping analysis for outbound and inbound shipments

Develop long term plans to reduce shipping cost annually

Innovate, build, and deliver consolidated logistics strategies across local retail stores, distribution centers, and other warehouse hubs across the country.

Support weekly, monthly results reviews with in depth root cause analysis for shipping

Management and execution of continuous improvement plans that support the strategy

Conduct semi-annual and yearly rate analysis and negotiations with major carriers

Other duties may be added as the VP of Operations sees fit, these may include responsibilities in analytics, operations, and/or technology.

Qualifications

5 years of Supply Chain, Major Shipping Carrier, or Logistics Analytics experience

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an engineering, supply chain or quantitative discipline or work within a major shipping carrier

Demonstrated ability to build and develop relationships internally and externally

Proven ability to create and deliver models for senior leadership to consider

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with technical and non-technical teams across multiple businesses; written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills

Ability to work effectively as an individual and part of a team, meet tight deadlines and prioritize workloads in a fast-paced environment

Leadership abilities that include building teams, developing individuals in to future leaders, and performance managing managers

Strong ability to work in an ambiguous environment

Strategic thinker with the ability to see/understand the big picture, develop new ideas and think through creative solutions

Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills

Technical Skills

Proficiency in SQL and other business analytical tools preferred

Strong excel modeling skills
