Job Summary
Responsible for leading network wide design and technical approach for network evolution and new products. Serves as a technical lead for new product integration across Comcast's converged IP Network. Influences and creates strategic standards according to industry standard across Transport and IP Layer (IETF, User Forums, MEF, OIF, etc.). Accountable for the adoption and integration strategy of emerging standards into the infrastructure in order to drive emerging technologies that reduce costs, increase flexibility and drive better scale across Comcast Infrastructure. Responsible for the thorough architecture, design, beta and launch of new integrated voice, video and data products across Converged Network and the evolution of the network to enhance capabilities and operational effectiveness of infrastructure.

About the Role:
Bring a combination of PON, FTTX, optical component, and networking experience to design and develop the next generation of optical core and access network infrastructure technologies. Lead the development of industry-leading network enhancements and tools that will improve network reliability, lower latency, increase network capacity and bring the fastest symmetrical speeds to millions of customers.

Who Does the FTTX Optical Communications Engineer work with?
CONNECT Engineering is a diverse collection of professionals who have a variety of organizational roles ranging from RF, Optics, HFC Engineers, Network Engineers, Architects, and Software Engineering teams. The teams' software integrates with analytics services in developing the fundamental protocols to some of the leading broadband experts who have pioneered the current and future of broadband access technology.
Where can you make an Impact?
You will contribute expertise to architecting, developing Proof-of-Concept HW and system designs for FTTX, optical products and systems and verification of production solutions in lab and field deployments. Success in this role is best enabled by a broad mix of skills and interests ranging from networking skills, FTTX, Optical Communications, Optical components, and software to engaging cross-domain development teams across Comcast and technology partners with optics and systems architecture subject matter expertise.
What You'll Do:
Strong intuitive understanding of the problem domain (Access and Metro Ethernet Networks and Optical Communication Systems. Evaluate and discover network and service design challenges and design innovative solutions to some key network challenges with use of new and optimization of existing infrastructure.
Collaborate across teams with an open-minded perspective on new ideas with creative contribution on new technology, architectures, and operational approaches. Inclusive sharing of ideas and data with all stakeholders.
Lead and collaborate with R&D team to design and develop operational platforms and analyze POC performance.
Develop and communicate goals, strategies, tactics, project plans, timelines, and key performance metrics to reach goals.
Build lab test systems to evaluate new hardware and software products and systems supporting transport, metro ethernet and access networks. Specify design and operations guidelines and support testing and validation teams.
Manage lab activities including planning development tests, acquiring test equipment, consumables materials, running tests, writing test reports, working with the optics team and strategic partners to evaluate, troubleshoot, and further improve or develop new products.
Work with program and operations resources to execute field trials and network measurement campaigns.
Frequent meeting/communication with stakeholders to interpret their needs, plan/organize, and discuss progress and results. Excellent communication skills including written, verbal and presentation are required.

Skills & Experience We're Looking For:
Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience
15 years working in optics telecommunications systems, broadband or HFC networks and software
Expertise in SFP, QSFP, CFP2, PON, FTTX, Ethernet optical transceivers to 100 Gbps, switches and routers
Principles for networking and communication systems, internet and communication protocols such as ethernet, IPv4 and IPv6, TCP/IP, DHCP, HTTPS
Quality of Service functionality, monitoring and analysis of key network performance metrics
Modern software development skills including python or Go and familiarity with continuous integration and test case automation
Experience with virtualized platforms
Optical measurements including wavelength, spectrum analysis, OSNR and OTDR

Salary:
Pay Range: $151,459.03 - $227,188.55
Comcast intends to offer the selected candidate base pay within this range, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience.
