The Best Buy Digital & Technology team provides all manner of software engineering and IT capabilities to our Fortune 100 company. This assignment involves Cloud based data engineering work, with a focus on implementing in Google Cloud Platform. You will be designing and delivering enhancements and services that are critical to unlocking value across the enterprise.

Our Analytics Data Platform is a combination of in-house developed software systems that enable data analysts & scientists across the company. From a technical perspective, the team has two primary roles. Cloud data engineers/Developer (such as this role) who will help create data flows, SQL based data transformation jobs and platform team engineers who are involved in creating services for data ingestion.

What kinds of work will you do as a Software Engineer I?

The Software Engineer I will participate in the full software delivery lifecycle. This involves a mix of working with the agile product owner to understand desired behavior; developing a software architecture; documenting designs for socialization; decomposing work for execution; and implementing, testing, reviewing & deploying the work produced.

The team is an on-site/offshore mix of engineers and testers working primarily on the delivery of new cloud-based capabilities as we migrate from our On-prem solutions. Senior and junior developers will work together in functioning pods.

What is the technology stack?

The team will develop capabilities in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), as well as some scalable Java microservices in service of data integration. Development will primarily be in Java, with relevant technologies including: Apache Beam, Apache Kafka, Google Pub/Sub, Spring, SQL and ORM.

As our primary users leverage our platform for data science work, any subject matter expertise on data science or machine learning is very useful. Knowledge of previous generation data technologies, from classic data warehousing to the Hadoop ecosystem, shall provide some useful context.

Basic Qualifications:

• 1 year of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, Associate's degree or Coding Bootcamp/Code School

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field

• 2 years of experience in building and operationalizing data solutions and applications using one or more of GCP data and analytics services viz. Cloud Dataflow, Apache Beam, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, Cloud Composer, Cloud Storage, Data Fusion etc.

• Experience in Data Warehouse concepts, complex SQL queries for relational and analytics database

• Programming in object-oriented languages, with most of this time working in Java and SQL

• Hands-on work experience with regards to at least two or more of the following:

o SQL and relational database technologies like Teradata, Netezza, Oracle.

o Experience in DevOps and GitHub technologies – Jenkins, Bitbucket etc.

o Experience in developing Apache NiFi flows

o Experience in Java, Python and Unix Shell scripts.

• Data engineering & server-side integration work, particularly with distributed clusters and frameworks

• Experience working on teams using agile methodologies
