SUMMARY

Bering Straits Native Corporation is currently seeking a qualified IT Support Specialist for the Information Technology Department in Anchorage, Alaska. This role will be specialized with a dual responsibility for IT support services and Enterprise Application support services. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining high-quality IT services and support for our Users; as well as providing support for the planning, installation, configuration, and maintenance of critical systems used by the business. The individual must have the ability to deliver technical and non-technical support, have exceptional customer service skill, and provide Enterprise project support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are

intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.

Provide Help Desk support and resolve problems to the end user’s satisfaction

Monitor and respond quickly and effectively to requests received through the IT Help Desk

Monitor Service Desk for tickets assigned to the queue and process first-in first-out based on priority

Modify configurations, utilities, software default settings, etc. for the local workstation

Utilize and maintain the Help Desk tracking software

Document internal procedures

Assist with onboarding of new users

Ensure each workstation has a computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse, hard drive, and any additional specialized equipment

Install, test and configure new workstations, peripheral equipment and software

Maintain inventory of all equipment, software and software licenses

Report issues to the Service Desk for escalation

Manage PC setup and deployment for new employees using standard hardware, images and software

Assign users and computers to proper groups in Active Directory

Perform timely workstation hardware and software upgrades as needed.

Assist in the installation, deployment, upgrade, or maintenance of enterprise applications.  This includes installing new software releases and system upgrades, evaluating, and installing application patches, and conducting application migrations, refreshes and restores.

Functions as technical support on implementation or upgrade projects to enhance the applications to meet dynamic business requirements.

Performs technical configuration, change management and testing activities to support a service-oriented architecture and integration between all applications.

Assists in both the IT support functional role and Enterprise Applications support functional role to identify and resolve critical system issues to minimize impact to business operations.

Works closely with the Enterprise Applications Administrator to resolve any performance related issues and provides recommendations for enhancements or changes as deemed necessary.

Interface, as directed, with software vendors for an application bug resolution or application maintenance issues.

Plans, creates, and maintains the appropriate documentation, inventory assessments, and procedures related to administration of the applications.

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

Required (Minimum) Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in Computer Science, MIS, or related field, or equivalent work experience is desired.

Demonstrable knowledge of basic of network setups and configurations.

At least 1 – 3 years of experience working in information technology or managed services team environment.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Experience with ticketing systems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; most of time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily a modern office setting. Occasional travel or remote work may be required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory responsibilities.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to military base. Must have reliable transportation to/from work a necessity and must be able to obtain access to military installations.
