The Automation Methods and Optimization team is a start-up team at Tyson Foods that is responsible for identifying automation and process optimization opportunities, performing financial modeling, driving the automation roadmap, and executing automation projects. We will also partner across the enterprise to define and facilitate a governance model to ensure we leverage Tyson's full scale as a Fortune 100 company as we engage external partners and suppliers for automation tech and services, simplify our automation solution catalog, and help streamline supportability and solution maintenance.
The Sr. Manager of Automation Robotics and Optimization will play a crucial role in leading their team to define a standard approach for identifying and modeling automation opportunities within Tyson Foods. They will lead a team of CI and Robotics Engineers who will partner with Tyson’s engineering, operations, and IT teams to assess current-state production processes and define/document opportunities to optimize through process improvement and the introduction of digital and physical automation solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Define the standard approach for investigating and identifying automation opportunities across Tyson’s enterprise (both digital and physical automation)
Define and manage standards tools and processes for documenting and financially modeling automation opportunities
Lead your team to apply a continuous improvement LEAN Six Sigma approach for process optimization as well as the introduction of automation solutions to drive improvements in safety, sustainability, quality, and profitability.
Lead a team of robotics engineers to design and make proposals on robotic and AI solutions
Build strong and mutually rewarding partnerships with our engineering, business ops, and IT teams
Lead your team by clearly defining a vision, setting expectations and responsibilities, providing effective performance coaching, and inspiring your team members to grow and meet their full potential in their current roles and careers.
Define standard approaches for financially modeling new opportunities as a key consideration in prioritization
Participate in or oversee and drive feasibility studies, vendor selections and proposals for evaluation by key stakeholders
Requirements:
Bachelor of Science and/or Masters degree in Industrial/Mechanical/Electrical/Robotic Engineering
6 to 10 years of direct related experience in manufacturing and production environments with an emphasis on process optimization and standards
An organized and process-minded approach to solving problems
2 to 4 years experience directly managing teams and managing performance
Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification is required
Hands-on experience where you have brought organization to ambiguous environment with the use of processes, standards, and governance
Significant experience with CAD software programs for documenting production process and engineering solutions
Experience gathering and organization data in order to glean insights from it to make decisions
Proficient in the use of data visualization platforms such as Power BI or Data Studio
Proficient in the use of process mapping software and tools (mind-mapping tools, Visio, etc.)
Excellent skills in standard computer software including spreadsheet and presentation software
Proven project management skills with experience in project management tools (e.g. MS Project, JIRA, etc.) – certification is preferred
Ability to clearly “tell the story” and tailor your messaging to partners, leadership, and stakeholders including executive levels of leadership
Proven ability to mentor team members to grow in their own career and impact
Understanding of interdependencies between technology, operations, and engineering
Understanding and knowledge of food production processes and solutions is desired
Deep knowledge and experience in industrial robotics and artificial intelligence and their application in a production environment
Experience with industrial Internet of Things (IoT) devices and their deployment at scale
Advanced problem-solving skills with the ability to operate within complex situations, break them down, and work with others to define the path forward
