Job Description:
The objective of the Deepwater Technology organization in PTX is to develop, mature, and deploy technologies and integrated capabilities in support of the Global Deepwater Business strategy - Competitive Growth (reducing CAPEX/UDC, affordable recovery), Production Excellence (reducing OPEX, improving availability, filling the hubs), and Advantaged Portfolio (selective exploration, active portfolio management) anchored on continued safety leadership (asset integrity and process safety). The Deepwater technology organization has capabilities in areas of production chemistry, flow assurance, subsea systems/equipment/processing, and floating production systems with accountability for e2e technology delivery to global Deepwater business. Most of the teams are located in Houston with a small flow assurance team in Amsterdam.
The Deepwater Technology Platform aims at addressing challenges and opportunities of Shell global DW business posed by the rapidly changing business landscape. The technology delivery model is aligned with RDS Technology Strategy Refresh i.e., continue investing in in-house Core Capability R&D such as flow assurance and production chemistry and step-up Continuous Innovation by leveraging and incorporating 3rd party technologies to accelerate technology deployment at lower costs with strong focus on reducing CAPEX.
What is the role?
The Senior Subsea Research Engineer role will be anchored in the Subsea Processing and Systems team in the DW technology organization, and a significant part of the role will be focused on technology projects related to subsea production systems and subsea processing systems.
The person we are looking for will be directly responsible and accountable for all system integration activities on the technology projects that he/she will be assigned to. He/she will be responsible for reviewing the technology developments with focus on integration of system components, system functionality and integrity, and system optimization, to assure systems deliver on expectations for safety, cost, schedule, availability and operability.
You will be involved in the identification, definition and execution of technology development projects relevant to the DW business, and may also play a role in the development of Shell's DW technology strategy. The primary role of the Senior Subsea Research Engineer is to ensure:
that technology projects are defined and executed with focus on system functionality and integration of all disciplines involved
that fit-for-purpose functional requirements, design basis and technology maturation plans are defined for technology projects
effective interface management, coordination and connection between the disciplines, subsurface, wells, topsides, and operations
alignment with technical authorities/specialists, project definition, functional requirements and concept selection
that the systems approach addresses all relevant disciplines (e.g. flow assurance, chemical and materials engineering, topside or subsea processing, pipeline engineering, operations, etc.)
that the development of operating procedures and guidelines is an integrated part of the technology development project
The Senior Subsea Research Engineer is expected to:
lead technology development and qualification projects in the subsea production system domain, with focus on analysis of requirements, functionality and optimization, with due integration of system components, to assure system(s) deliver on expectations for safety, operability, availability, cost and schedule.
coordinate with multiple organizational stakeholders (including PTD, PTP, UPD), delivering system integration through multi-disciplinary engineering and requirements management
be the steward of the design basis requirements and ownership of the system architecture.
be accountable for development and deployment of subsea technology.
contribute to safe, timely, and cost-effective integration testing, installation, and commissioning of technologies via procedure development, onsite supervision, and coordination of technical and logistical interface issues between disciplines and suppliers
demonstrate a commitment to HSSE and show leadership that fosters appropriate behaviors while ensuring compliance with HSSE rules and policies, including proactive hazard identification and mitigation. Support Shell and contractor staff to demonstrate appropriate HSSE behaviors in delivery of their work.
network both within Shell and externally to incorporate and share knowledge and best practices
The primary work location will be the Shell Technology Center Houston (STCH) at Westhollow. However, the selected candidate should expect to spend up to 50% of the office time at Shell Woodcreek (Houston) in order to build network and support our customers in UPX, UPD, PTD and PTP with technology need identification and deployment

Requirements:
For the role as Senior Subsea Research Engineer, we are looking for a person that fits the following description:
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
A degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, civil/structure engineering, electrical engineering or a related scientific discipline is required.
Knowledge and applied background from engineering or operation of subsea production systems, topside processing systems, flow assurance and production chemistry, marine systems and offshore operations will be preferred, although other experience with significant relevance to system engineering and integration will be considered.
Seasoned professional with broad knowledge and minimum of ten (10 ) years’ experience in own discipline, complemented by good knowledge of additional disciplines with relevance to DW production and operations.
Experience from design and qualification of HP/HT equipment and systems according to API TR 17TR8 (High-pressure High-temperature Design Guidelines) and 30 CFR 250.732(c) (Independent Third Party (I3P) Process and submission).
Demonstrated strong project management skills.
Demonstrated ability to understand the range of uncertainty from a total system perspective and determine appropriate functionality, operating ranges, and flexibility of design to meet technology objectives
