Job Details:

This position is responsible for all packaging developmental activities in beef, pork, value-added, portioned products business units and to be the support arm of Operations for packaging. This position is responsible for evaluating and developing packaging systems including all primary and protective secondary packaging systems. These evaluations and developments shall include product protection package quality as defined by the market requirements, equipment efficiencies and packaging cost optimization of current packaging systems as well as new packaging technologies.

Specific responsibilities will include:

Collaborate with various internal groups including Sales and Marketing, Operations, Sourcing, FSQA, Accounting, Claims and packaging material/equipment suppliers to develop systems that deliver products that meet market requirements for the advancement of Tyson products

Develop packaging specifications, new product, revised product specs pack changes etc.

Establish tares for all packaging material and manage any discrepancy issues

Coordinate pricing information and ensure packaging database reflects accurate pricing

Troubleshoot packaging operational issues; coordinate and manage all packaging vendors;

Collaborate with plant operations to ensure optimum packaging performance, packaging processes, material equipment maintenance etc.

Collaborate develop and implement R D packaging projects;

Coordinate and collaborate with claims department and QA on packaging issues;

Evaluations of packaging materials that include pallet design and distribution studies;

Other associated packaging projects as needed

REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred in engineering or equivalent combination of education and industry experience.

Experience: 5 plus years experience; knowledge and understanding of plant operations and packaging processes; expertise in the areas of flexible corrugated and packaging processes applications is desirable.

Computer Skills: Standard computer skills; spreadsheet database and statistical analysis are beneficial.

Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written skills.

Travel: Extensive - 25 - 35 domestic trips per year.
