DescriptionThe qualified Field Service Engineer
will be responsible for the execution of advanced field service technical
activities; these include field engineering, site execution, proposal & planning
support and service desk support within the TCP (turbo compressor) product line,
with additional work on specialty areas within additional product lines as
required. Engineering Services provides
targeted technical support to customers to solve specific client technical
problems, which includes performance testing, process modeling, thermodynamic
modeling, vibration analysis, root cause analysis, reliability centered
maintenance studies, control system analysis, field performance testing, and instrumentation
and electrical troubleshootingThis position provides technical
guidance to global team members supporting Ingersoll-Rand, Clark, Dresser-Rand,
DeLaval, Cooper, Rolls-Royce, Siemens, and other affiliate brand names The
technical support provided will often include on-site support for clients and
service centers globally to assist with time-critical, complex tasks.  The role includes significant client
interfacing responsibilities and is responsible to manage relationships in a
manner that helps improve client satisfaction The core machinery and support
systems covered by this role (TCP product line) include radial/axial
compressors, expanders, centrifugal compressors, centrifugal pumps, and related
auxiliary equipment.  A successful field
service engineer will recognize and understand the unique design and
operational requirements of our multiple product types and brands such that
there is not always a one-size-fits-all approach.  The FS engineer will be responsible for
learning the intricate design details of multiple products and will support
other PCC and regions in a timely manner.Excellent collaboration,
communication, and alignment with the other Engineering Departments (Calculation/Design;
Drafting/Design, Innovation, & Standard Business) both locally, as well as
globally across different TCP operations is critical to this role.  Position reports to the manager of
Technical Support Engineering.Moderate domestic/international travel is required and can sometimes
occur on very short notice.This position will be located at the Siemens Gas and Power Engineering
and Technology Center located in Olean, NY.Responsibilities·        
Work safely following all corporate / local procedures and timely
completion of all required safety training·        
Maintain accurate and organized engineering records·        
Communicates directly with client to exchange information and results.·        
Provide timely and accurate responses to technical support inquiries
from internal and external clients·        
Establish guidelines for and provide final engineering assessment and
disposition of non-conforming components.·        
Responsible for quality of support delivered; and ensuring support
recommendations are in accordance established company and product standards·        
Provide leadership and technical direction to global repair operations
in the inspection and repair of turbomachinery.·        
Establish scopes of work and recommended spares for turbomachinery
repair activities.·        
Perform systematic root cause analyses as a part of cross-functional
teams investigating challenges.  Identify
corrective action required to improve designs and provide sound documentation
of the investigation results.·        
Perform machinery diagnostics and troubleshooting·        
Complete site audits to evaluate the field installations, by inspecting
and reporting the condition of the equipment and their arrangements·        
Field performance testing of industrial equipment to determine range of
operation of the different units and their safety margins·        
Installation of different equipment and instrumentation, such as
pressure transducers, thermocouples, proximity probes and required hardware to
obtain process and vibration data.·        
Process modeling and thermodynamic analysis to assess system
performance, quantify system losses, and troubleshoot lack of performance·        
Obtain vibration data by installing dynamic signal processing instrument
for analysis and provide reports describing the problem and possible solutions·        
Identify and champion the implementation of product and service
improvements to meet client needs.·        
Develop and improve engineering standards for design, manufacturing,
testing, and repair of turbomachinery.·        
Participate in development, implementation, maintenance, and improvement
of tools, standards, and processes Required
Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:·        
Bachelor’s degree in engineering
(Mechanical, Aeronautical/Aerodynamic, Chemical, Electrical or equivalent
degrees from an accredited college/university will be considered)·       5-8  years’ experience working
with rotating machinery, e.g. centrifugal compressors, centrifugal pumps, axial
compressors, hot gas expanders, auxiliary systems ·        
Foundational knowledge of these
subjects is required:  machinery design,
rotor dynamics, strength-of-materials / solid mechanics,
materials-of-construction selection, thermodynamics, aerodynamics, fluid
dynamics·        
Good organizational and time
management skills·        
Possess and demonstrate a high
degree of tact and professionalism; and be capable of interacting with
Management, Peers, Shop Personnel, and Clients·        
Ability to work collaboratively
and individually with the same enthusiasm and intensity.·        
Ability and desire to promptly
file technical notes/reports in an organized manner·        
Strong analytical skills and the
ability to be resourceful·        
Excellent communication,
interpersonal, and writing skills·        
Solid computer literacy and
experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power-Point)·        
Proficiency with PLM (Team
Center/Globus) and ERP system (SAP or Oracle).·        
Knowledge of process and
vibration data collection equipment·        
Willing and able to travel
domestically and internationally with short notice (estimated 50% travel)Preferred:·        
Master’s degree in Engineering·        
High level knowledge of these
subjects is desirable: thermodynamics, aerodynamics, fluid dynamics,
rotordynamics, strength-of-materials / solid mechanics, materials-of-construction
selection, machinery design.·        
Knowledge and understanding of
Siemens / Dresser-Rand’s products and services ·        
Possess fundamental knowledge of
turbomachinery theory and thorough understanding of standard engineering
principles·        
Experience with machinery design,
production, and/or or servicing ·        
Education/experience in
structured problem solving ·        
Familiarity and experience with
industry standards such as ASME and APIQualified
