This position is responsible for the support of the campus-wide network security and wired/wireless/ Datacenter networks. Incumbent will perform basic to advanced hardware and firmware evaluation/installations on our Juniper, Paloalto, Extreme Networks, and Aruba infrastructure. Maintain compatibility for Windows/ MacOS/Unix-based networked environment. Evaluate new network technology initiatives and security requirements. Develop and recommend technical and operational solutions.The incumbent has frequent contact with users and other computing groups of the university that are linked to our network and systems. He/She will also have frequent contact with vendors, contractors, and technical specialists for equipment repair, research, problem resolution, or hardware/software evaluation.\u00A0 Contacts require a high level of communication skills.The incumbent is part of the team responsible for designing, planning, implementing, documenting, monitoring, maintaining, upgrading, and repairing all components that comprise and ensure the reliability of the campus network, supporting the goals of the university safely and securely. This includes LAN, WLAN, WAN, and internet-related resources, including but not limited to servers, cabling, network electronics, network software, and outsourced services.\u00A0Develops and maintains various information technology network security control systems such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, wireless networks, virtual private networks, and network account access; report breaches including potential solutions; monitor network traffic activity campus-wide; assist University technical staff in troubleshooting and resolving network security issues.\u00A0Plans and implements future IT developments and undertakes project work.Assists in departmental projects and activities as assigned.Works with others in developing procedures and policies related to responsible network use by students and by employees; helps to develop practical methods by which policies can be implemented and monitored.\u00A0Implements information security interfaces in very complex computing systems.Responsible for the application of software/hardware related to network security; evaluating Internet-wide security threats about local systems; communicating potential information security exploits to University technical employees.\u00A0Receives calls referred by Help Desk staff regarding network connectivity problems; isolates, troubleshoot, and corrects network communication problems.Edits and updates status reports, Help Desk problem reports, or other reports as needed by local IT Management\u00A0Provides training and technical support for users with varying levels of IT knowledge and competence. Works closely with other departments/organizations and collaborates with other IT staff. Interacts with students, employees, and outside constituents in a responsive, positive manner\u00A0\u00A0Requirements/Qualifications (examples):Bachelor\u2019s degree in Computer Science or related field and 4 years of related experience.Knowledge of LAN/ WAN / WLAN operations with technologies like Palo Alto, Extreme XOS, JunOS, PulseSecure, ArubaOS, F5 TMOS, and Infoblox NIOS is desired.Good understanding of TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, VRRP, VOIP, DNS, DHCP, IMAP, SMTP, SSL, IPSec, WPA2, LDAP, Kerberos SNMP, Radius, NAT, and NAC desired.Knowledge of Redhat and Windows Server is desired. Perl, PHP, and PowerShell are a plus.Experience with VMware is desiredMust possess:\u00A0A high degree of customer focus, excellent problem-solving and follow-through skillsClear/precise written/oral communications skills, ability to interact with technical staff and work in a team-oriented customer-focused environment.Ability to take or give direction but also able to research solutions and work independently to complete a task, documenting work performedAbility to work effectively with a broad range of people and systems; teaching and learning skills.Ability to work as part of a team in which members have different technical abilities.\u00A0
