Job Description:
What is the role?
The Senior Telecoms Engineer will provide support for Gulf of Mexico's Cisco Telecoms infrastructure. The person will work in conjunction with the Americas Telecom OLM and Gulf of Mexico (GoM) Field
Telecoms Lead and provide services as listed below:
Support Network and Telecoms operations in the GoM:
Support all non-legacy and legacy telecoms systems in managed facilities, in line with applicable OLA/SLAs - should have working experience with all or most of key systems like Avaya PBX, Cisco Call Manager, UHF/VHF systems (Motorola), DC power systems (SAFT/AEG), Crude loading/ESD systems (Motorola), Aviation communications systems, Aviation lighting systems, CATV/Entertainment Systems, Redline radios, Cambium radios, microwave, LTE etc.
Ensure right security accesses are provided to assigned telecoms facilities
Support corrective & preventative maintenance jobs at managed telecoms facilities are carried out within specified OLA, based on incident/fault reports/logs; ensure resolution within OLA (and SLA with vendor, as appropriate) • Plan PM schedule wrt SEPCO telecoms assets; support scheduled preventive maintenance plans are carried out on time in all assigned facilities; support compliance to planned schedule; ensure close-out in SAP without MIE compliance issues
Effect configuration management: manage IP Subnets, manage inventory of telecoms assets (ensure all telecoms assets are registered); ensure asset disposal processes are followed (as appropriate)
Manage integrity of assets; ensure governance processes and physical state of systems in managed telecoms facilities are in top conditions; document visit details and identified issues; recommend solutions to identified problems and ensure timely close-out of action items • Ensure thorough Run and Maintain support for ALL telecoms assets in the Gulf of Mexico. • Landscape Management (Cisco networks):
Must demonstrate mastery, and hands-on skill at configuration/support operation of Cisco network systems.
Must demonstrate mastery, and hands-on skill at operation of SolarWinds NMS systems
Must be able to independently evaluate key business/commercial problems and to initiate and carry through on technical solutions that others did not see
Must successfully interact with experts from other disciplines
Requirement to stay aware of who the key players are, what is happening in the business and what the key business problems are
The successful candidate must stay current in a vast array of Telecom technologies. They must be aware of what is happening within Shell, in industry, in IT and in other related fields
They must strive for business continuity and enhanced productivity for end users in the business
A key part of the job is to deliver user support & consultancy and see that improved & new business tools are effectively adopted. This will involve frequent user contacts, demonstrations, preparing and consulting
Responsible for identifying new features for IT Telecoms that give Shell Telecom users an advantage over their competition.
Key components of the role include:
The Senior Telecoms Engineer will sit beside and work closely with the Gulf of Mexico Field Telecoms Lead at One Shell Square in New Orleans
Manage Fiber, Microwave (Motorola, Cambium, Redline, Cisco, Alcatel-Lucent), VSAT and LTE networks that connect approximately 20 Deep Water Gulf of Mexico Sites
Manage all Cisco Switches, routers, firewalls (SonicWall, Checkpoint, FortiGate), phones/Call Manager and access points associated with the retained telecoms landscape in the Gulf of Mexico
Design, Implement and Maintain Routing and switching (Cisco and Nokia)
Border Routing and ISP Connectivity
Support telecoms systems (and availability) in up to 20 SEPCO offshore sites.
Design, Implement and Maintain Voice over IP Systems (Cisco, PBX, Asterisk, Avaya)
Design, Implement and Maintain Wireless networks (Cisco LWAPP and autonomous)
What we need from you
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Ten (10) years or more of professional IT/Telecoms Network Engineering & Network Administration experience with at least five (5) years supporting Fiber Based Telecom Infrastructure in the Gulf of Mexico.
Bachelor's Degree preferred. • Network Engineering Certifications required.
Must have Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP),
Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert - Written Certification (CCIE ) or 15 years transport network experience and willingness to attain Cisco Network Professional certification.
Oil & Gas industry experience is a must
Must have strong knowledge of Upstream Operations
Must have strong knowledge of budgeting - planning, control, and execution processes
Must have knowledge of Health Safety Security Environment (HSSE) processes.
Must be able to provide leadership in IT related HSSE.
Must have knowledge in Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning, Processes and Operations.
Good team player - able to work effectively with colleagues, internal and external customers in a virtual manner.
Must be available to work off-hours, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
Analyze network performance and perform network planning
Analyze customer needs and generate technical requirements, using your expertise in Cisco routing and switching, troubleshooting and configuration of MPLS, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, VPN and QOS
Identify technical problems and debug hardware and software related to Cisco carrier-class routing platforms
Provide network problem resolution and root-cause analysis • Server Administration (Windows, Linux and Unix)
Server-side scripting (PERL, PHP, PowerShell, Python, Bash, Cambium Radio, Nokia, XML).
