This is a highly visible role that will require this person be capable of communicating with, presenting to and influencing senior level executives (VP & SEB) from P&Ls, Supply Chain Operations, Engineering and Product Management on a regular basis.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Process Ownership
- Lead the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) Process to optimize the value chain relationships within company businesses to deliver value and provide transparency to the organization on demand, constraints, opportunities, etc. Aggregate large amounts of data, filter for importance and tie together in a context relevant story designed to drive action
S&OP Cadence & Meetings
– Manage the S&OP Calendar, Meeting agendas, and Content Presentation. Prepare monthly S&OP deck using inputs from Commercial teams, Regional P&Ls, Supply Chain and Plants. Facilitate monthly S&OP meetings (Demand Planning, Supply Planning, S&OP Working Meeting, and Executive Review meetings).
Demand Planning
– Work with commercial teams to build unconstrained demand forecasts in units or hours for different businesses/channels. Create these demand plans in sufficient detail, far enough out in the future (18 month) to allow modeling in the Supply Chain’s Rough-Cut Capacity Planning (RCCP) Models and to give the business sufficient time to make significant business decisions.
Forecast Accuracy
- Develop, implement, and maintain a robust project demand forecasting model as well as review and calibrate on project demand (order and forecast) together with sales/PM team for the business on a regular basis.
Demand/Supply Balance
- Lead process for supply-demand balancing, understanding and modeling constraints/resources (capacity models). Help identify capacity utilization or lead time issues soon enough to allow proper re-allocation of resources. Help create realistic forward-looking projections of business performance that can be discussed and managed during S&OP cycles.
Capacity Planning and Modeling
- Work closely with engineering, supply chain and manufacturing teams to understand constrained resources and develop rough cut capacity (RCCP) models for each resource or constrain. Identify and discuss short term (3-6 month) and Longer term (6-18 month) capacity improvement or reduction activities including hiring and reduction of headcount, out-sourcing, expediting of materials, and high overtime.
Inventory and Cash Flow
– Aggregate the expected inventory impact of sourcing and project management decisions to accurately model inventory and cash flow impact on business.
Financial Forecasts & Budgets
– The output of the S&OP process should be sufficiently robust to allow the finance team to create regular financial forecasts, including the annual budget. It should be the
“one version of the truth”
for the business, including a sales plan and the operations plan. Typically, the output of the 8th or 9th cycle becomes the basis of the following years’ budget.
Market Research
- Research business issues to define risks and opportunities that need to be raised to the S&OP community. This may include deep dive analysis of specific topic or area of concern.
Dashboards
- develop dashboards to provide transparency and single source of truth across functional areas to ensure alignment and optimal results. Manage Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for S&OP Process.
Cross-Functional Alignment -
Drive cross-functional alignment with the business, Commercial, Product Management, Supply Chain Operations and Finance. Establish seamless internal relationships with customer facing functions (Sales, Estimating and Marketing), Engineering, and Manufacturing to ensure transparency through value chain for optimal business results
IT Systems
- Work with IT to design reports and processes that lead to simplification and enhanced business planning
Continuous Improvement & Best Practices
- Leverage industry best practices and continuous improvement to continually enhance the S&OP process. Continuously drive process improvement to increase the level of process maturity and influence it has in driving business decisions across the company
Required Qualifications:
5 years’ experience in Demand, Supply or Sales & Operations Planning
Bachelor’s degree
Process expert with a minimum of 8 years of demonstrated experience in process improvement
Desired Qualifications:
Passion to drive world-class excellence and the knowledge and experience leading continuous improvement activities (Lean, Six Sigma) within their organization
Leadership presence and the ability to lead a process in a highly matrixed environment
Capable of influencing and driving decisions through the S&OP process
Strong analytical, organizational, decision making skills
Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
Experience with planning, analytical tools Ex: Oracle/Demantra, SAP, Demand Solutions, Kinaxis Rapid Response, BI, Tableau or similar
