The Physical Scientist Rheology role provides an excellent opportunity to build and apply fundamental physical science & material property understanding of ingredients, formulations, processes, and products to a wide range of leading food products and related food systems to build models and solve practical problems in a fast-paced rewarding environment to all categories of Mondelez. The position plans and executes experiments, delivers results, interpretation, and technical reports. At the organizational level, the position develops strong relationships within the function and cross-functionally. Acts as a technological resource or as an expert in own technical scientific area.
How you will contribute
Key responsibilities include the following:
• Apply & build a strong physical science and engineering knowledge to lead and/or support R&D projects for a broad range of food systems across Mondelez categories
• Develop technical strategy, aligned with the broader Mondelēz business strategy, and initiate and lead programs and projects that create and/or import new tools & technologies to solve the biggest & most complex business-critical technical problems
• Apply current and develop new and innovative rheology and materials science approaches and understanding to solve practical problems
• Develop and apply a broad physical characterization expertise based on high quality science
• Develop and apply engineering and scientific expertise to drive food system ingredient, formulation and process understanding, innovation and technology, and to build computational fluid dynamics and data science models
• Collaborate across R&D as a cross-functional team member and develop & demonstrate technical leadership
• Manage projects and team relationships to deliver results in a timely manner for maximum business impact
• Effective and impactful communication of technical findings to project team and management; maintain lab notebook, write technical reports and present project summaries
• Build, maintain and leverage strong internal and external network of technical experts

What you need to know about this position:
What extra ingredients you will bring:
• Preferably a strong understanding of what is possible applying physical sciences to build data science models
• Demonstrated in-depth understanding in two or more of the following areas: Polymer Science, Suspension/Colloid/Emulsion Sciences, Physical Chemistry & Process Engineering
• Skilled at applying theoretical and experimental knowledge to solve practical problems
• Ability to learn quickly, with a passion to apply multi-disciplinary background to Food Industry
• Excellent interpersonal & project management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to build strong customer/client relationships
Education / Certifications:
PhD in Engineering or Sciences with a strong proven expertise in rheology and physical sciences
Job specific requirements:
• 4 years of experience in application of rheology
• Strong experimental skills, with hands-on experience with state-of-the-art rheometers, viscometers, thermal analyzers, and related physical measurement techniques
• Experienced in leveraging strong fundamental rheological and materials science knowledge to design & interpret rheological measurements to guide formulations (such as the role of one or more ingredients on process and final product properties), processes and final products
• Skilled in modeling of rheological data, and its application to build fundamental and Data Science models
• Knowledgeable in programming and using Python and R, and the application of Machine Learning algorithms to build models
Work schedule:
On-site role based in East Hanover, NJ. Flexible hybrid work schedule.
