Job Description:

Position Purpose

What’s the role –

The Pressure Equipment Integrity Engineer provides technical support for daily PEI issues and unit turnarounds for the Norco Refinery and Chemical Plant. Some amount of project support and corrosion and materials activities will also be involved. The PEI Engineer provides support to the Unit Inspectors and other PEI department personnel, as well as customers in Maintenance, Production, and Technology. The PEI Department reports through the Engineering organization at Norco.

Accountabilities:

Provide technical support for the design, selection, repair, and alteration of pressure vessels, tanks, piping and relief valves in accordance with applicable ASME and API codes and engineering standards (i.eASME Section VIII Div 1, ASME PCC-1, ASME PCC-2, API 510, API 660, API 661, API 579, API 570, API 620, API 650, and API 653).

Act as the first level technical resource to Unit Inspectors to assist in the resolution of problems and development of solutions. When required, coordinate support with the Corrosion Engineer, other technical groups, and Shell Projects & Technology specialists.

Calculate renewal thickness of equipment and assist in the evaluation of remaining life.

Perform pressure vessel design rerates.

Review MOC changes for PEI technical considerations.

Evaluate alternative solutions to complex technical issues utilizing risk assessment and options analysis tools. Review results with unit Production Teams.

Develop specification packages for the purchase of new equipment and repair of existing equipment.

Initiate project ideas to improve reliability of pressure equipment.

Develop and review written procedures to assure the integrity of pressure equipment.

Assist with the resolution of pressure equipment process assurance gaps. Some solutions will require the development of new support systems and controls.

Provide technical support for the implementation of RBI (Risk Based Inspection).

Provide technical assurance for temporary repairs, hot taps, in-service welding, hot bolting, and freeze plugging.

Provide turnaround planning and execution technical support for pressure equipment.

Manage significant PEI reliability threats.

Support the execution of turnarounds and pitstops.

Perform or review fitness for service assessments and stress analyses of pressure equipment and piping.

Skills & Requirements

What we need from you –

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis.

Bachelor of Science in Engineering, preferably Mechanical.

3 or more years of manufacturing plant experience in projects, maintenance engineering, or pressure equipment.

Equipment integrity and repair assessments.

Analytical problem-solving skills.

Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Self-starter who can set goals and organize own work
