Position Overview
The Brightcove Player is a web-based video player built on the popular Video.js open source framework and is used daily by millions of people around the world. Brightcove is looking to enhance our Web Player team in Boston (or US remote) with a Software Engineer.
As the right candidate, you will help us improve and maintain the popular open source Video.js framework and the commercial Brightcove Player built on top of it. You will work with vanilla JavaScript and core web platform APIs. You will dive into the internals of streaming formats (e.g., HLS, DASH), video container formats (e.g., MP4), DRM protection, video advertising, analytics, and more.
Job Responsibilities
Know the web platform inside and out.
Learn and understand the internals of video playback.
Understand the fundamentals of video advertising.
Develop clean, high-quality code and write automated tests to verify its operation.
Contribute to internal technical documentation.
Work in a collaborative, agile environment with a small team of software engineers.
Work across multiple teams contributing to the same product.
Qualifications/Experience
1 years of front-end software engineering experience with Javascript, CSS, and HTML.
Knowledge of browser debugging tools.
Experience with continuous integration and deployment infrastructure.
Familiarity with Linux or macOS and the command line.
Ability to navigate, understand, and describe complex state relationships.
Ability to read and understand technical documentation and standards.
Proficient communication skills both verbal and written.
Collaborates effectively with other software engineers, product/program managers, and support personnel.
Ability to set and maintain high standards of quality and customer value.
Experience with video is a plus, but not required.
