Position Purpose
What’s the role -
Control System Engineer (CSE) serves as the focal point for control system technical assurance and is responsible for process control system performance & technical assurance for the assigned production team. The CSE enables operations to efficiently and safely control operating units using the process control system tools and equipment including field instrumentation, DCS hardware, baselayer controls, complex controls, and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
The primary role of the CSE is supporting the Production Team for regular operations providing day-to-day assurance for PACO equipment, systems, and applications. Additional responsibilities associated with their assigned production team include:
• Focal point for Instrumentation, Control Systems and SIS (safety instrumented systems) issues
• Troubleshoot DCS configuration, graphics, and logic in the control systems
• Proactive Technical Monitoring of the Base Layer and Complex Controls assuring reliable and optimized operation
• Familiar with the unit process and therefore understanding the process objectives of the implemented base-layer and complex controls
• Identify and assist in implementing changes that improve the console operators’ ability to run the unit effectively
• Site support during Turnarounds as required to provide engineering and technical assurance of major PACO scopes.
• Support operations team during reliability events and trips, participating in investigations, contributing to reports, identifying root causes and remedial actions required to prevent a re-occurrence
• Occasional interface with capital projects to provide technical assurance in process control scope development.
• Understand impact of decisions on production, operability, safety, reliability, and economics.
The CSE is expected to have effective use of company tools including:
• ESP participant: Alarm configuration, Alarm Review Team, Alarm Metrics, Revalidations and using ACM/UTL for PTM monitoring
• Owner of threats and/or action items for instrumentation and control systems
• MOC: Knowledgeable in the process and use the process to enact changes. Will act as Responsible Party (RP) for PACO (Process, Automation, Control and Optimization) centric plant changes and will be primary evaluator for multi-discipline changes.
• RCM participant: Provide guidance for Preventative Maintenance tasks and participate in RCM studies. Advises Technicians while troubleshooting Instrument Asset Management System (IAMS)
• PCD Security: Awareness and directs others of the dangers and risks associated with the process control domain
This Senior CSE role is expected to provide guidance to graduate PACO (Process, Automation, Control and Optimization) Engineers and Instrument Technicians, while being a leader in delivering site performance improvement goals. Interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and ability to manage multiple interfaces with varying needs and priorities are critical to success in this position.
Skills & Requirements
What we need from you –
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Chemical or Electrical engineering degree required as well as demonstrated knowledge of practical process controls work experience.
At least (8) years of experience in Process Controls or Control System Engineering supporting manufacturing operations.
DCS platform knowledge required in one of the following systems: Honeywell TDC3000, Emerson DeltaV or Yokagawa CS3000
