Profile

Signal Processing Geophysics Scientist

Cambridge - United States

Job Title: Research Scientists in Acoustics, Electromagnetics, and Geophysical Signal Processing

Location: Schlumberger Doll Research, Cambridge, MA, USA

Status: Full-time

Job Description & Responsibilities

Schlumberger Doll Research (SDR) is seeking applicants for multiple Research Scientist positions in the domains of Acoustics, Electromagnetics, and Geophysical signal processing. Candidates may have a PhD in the fields of electrical engineering, geophysics, applied mathematics, or in any related field with a strong foundation in signal processing, wave propagation, or numerical inversion techniques.

As a member of our multidisciplinary team, you will have a key role in developing new models and integrated algorithms for Carbon Sequestration and the Energy Transition. At SDR, we use fundamental science to solve real-world problems. You will provide the theoretical understanding and computing skills to take advantage of rich datasets that include acoustic, seismic, electromagnetic, and other measurements. Multi-frequency acoustic signals are used for non-destructive evaluation and measurement of elastic moduli. Seismic and EM data encode the structure of the subsurface and the distribution of its fluids. The wealth of physical information in these data can be harnessed through physical modeling, signal processing, deep learning, and integrated inversion algorithms. Schlumberger has decades of leadership in the use of remote sensing techniques to characterize the subsurface. You can be part of the team that extends that technology to solve the world’s energy challenges.

These positions will be embedded in the Modeling & Interpretation department at SDR, which combines expertise in the fields of Acoustics, Electromagnetics, Fiber Optics, Nuclear, and Geophysical measurements, along with state-of-the-art computational sciences and deep learning. Extensive datasets and computing infrastructure are available on the premises and in the cloud. Scientists are encouraged to publish research results, present work at conferences, and file for patent protection.

Qualifications

Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Geophysics, Applied Mathematics, or in any related field with a strong foundation of signal processing, wave propagation, or numerical inversion techniques.

Solid programming/software skills and practice of machine learning are preferred

Strong interest in physical simulations and interpretation of data. You thrive on the combination of science and computing to extract insights.

Demonstrated problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills. You are enthusiastic and work well in a team of scientists and engineers.

Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US.

How to apply

Applicants are asked to submit an online application under Technology on www.careers.slb.com . Please also submit a resume and brief letter of intent to SDRJobs@slb.com and JMiles@slb.com with reference “ M&I Full Time ” in the email title.
