Job Summary
Responsible for planning and designing new software and web applications. Analyzes, tests and assists with the integration of new applications. Oversees the documentation of all development activity. Trains non-technical personnel. Assists with tracking performance metrics. Integrates knowledge of business and functional priorities. Acts as a key contributor in a complex and crucial environment. May lead teams or projects and shares expertise. We are looking for an experienced Senior Engineer, Video Technology to assist with design, engineering, and integration of multiple video processing and streaming that drives Online Video Streaming Service. As the Senior Engineer, Video Technology for the Xumo Software Engineering Team, you'll lead the team and services to build and operate the infrastructure from ingestion of content to the delivery to clients. The role interacts with stakeholders across the business and requires advanced abilities to collaborate, build consensus, organize ideas, communicate them to stakeholders, and deliver projects. Comcast and Charter Communications will form a 50/50 joint venture that will bring our world-class Flex streaming platform, 4K streaming devices, voice remote and XClass TVs nationwide. You will want to join our innovative team, because together we will develop and offer consumers a next-generation streaming platform, with a world-class user experience and navigation and all the top apps, bringing more choice to the streaming marketplace. Comcast also will contribute XUMO to the joint venture, our free ad-supported service that currently delivers more than 200 unique streaming channels and features hundreds of free content choices.
Job Description
Position Duties:
Build High-performance Digital Video Pipeline - Video Technology is the core of Xumo's service and the team is continuously developing the video streaming and processing pipelines which supports live video service, VOD video service in many different countries. The responsibility includes Video Technologies, Live Stream Creation with multiple Cloud Server Systems, and implementing automated video processing components and pipelines.
*Build, operate & maintain monitoring systems for our video pipelines, content processing & delivery systems.
Technology Integration - Provides strong supports and guidance for our technology-based projects. Act as a hands-on technology resource on the projects to address the complicated design challenges and technical issues. Focus the team on implementing and integrating in a way that is efficient and beneficial to the departments and company.
QA & Release Management - Manage the Quality Assurance and Release Management with the team to release the new feature in the production infrastructure. Work with Development, QA, Engineering, Product and Operation Team to establish instructions and steps for releasing software to the Dev, Staging and Production environments.
Preferred Requirements:
5-10 yeas experience with Digital Video Streaming (MPEG-2, MP4, HLS, MPEG-Dash)
Expertise knowledge and experience of video and audio encoding (H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, AAC/Dolby Digital) including the assuring the quality of video/audio and the securing the compliance to the common specification of the video/audio codecs.
In-depth knowledge of open-source/cloud tools like ffmpeg, AWS MediaTailor, Google Media&Entertainment, other online video APIs (e.g., YouTube, Vimeo, etc.)
Excellent understanding of operating system / Linux fundamentals
Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting complex systems using test tools, network management systems and error reporting systems
Knowledge of DRM systems, i.e. PlayReady, Widevine and Fairplay
Strong passion on improving Video/Audio/Caption Quality for the best customer experience on video streaming service.
Core Responsibilities
Collaborates with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements. Conducts analysis to determine integration needs.
Designs new software and web applications, supports applications under development and customizes current applications. Develops software update process for existing applications. Assists in the roll-out of software releases.
Trains junior Software Development Engineers on internally developed software applications.
Oversees the researching, writing and editing of documentation and technical requirements, including evaluation plans, test results, technical manuals and formal recommendations and reports.
Keeps current with technological developments within the industry. Monitors and evaluates competitive applications and products. Reviews literature, patents and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects.
Provides technical leadership throughout the design process and guidance with regards to practices, procedures and techniques. Serves as a guide and mentor for junior level Software Development Engineers.
Assists in tracking and evaluating performance metrics. Ensures team delivers software on time, to specification and within budget.
Works with Quality Assurance team to determine if applications fit specification and technical requirements.
Displays expertise in knowledge of engineering methodologies, concepts and skills and their application in the area of specified engineering specialty.
Displays expertise in process design and redesign skills. Presents and defends architectural, design and technical choices to internal audiences.
Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.

Salary:
Pay Range: $130,314.52 - $195,471.79
Comcast intends to offer the selected candidate base pay within this range, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience.
