JOB OVERVIEW
The position will focus on the synthesis of advanced sorbents for nutrient recovery with special focus on water used in agricultural activities and process unit operations for water reuse. The selected applicant will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment and collaborate with other researchers in the area of water reuse using non-conventional waters as part of the National Alliance for Water Innovation (NAWI) hub funded by the Department of Energy (https://www.nawihub.org/partners). The initial appointment is for one year, but is renewable depending continued funding. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Dionysios (Dion) D. Dionysiou at the Univ. of Cincinnati but will have the opportunity to collaborate with Drs. Thomas Borch and Jim Ippolito (Colorado State University), Dr. Brennan Pecha (National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)), Dr. Amy McKenna (National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL), Dr. Susan Crow (University of Hawaii), and Mr. Jim Mothersbaugh (CEO - WaterTectonics).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
*Duties include synthesis of selective sorbents, advanced materials synthesis and characterization, expertise in water treatment and purification processes, and technoeconomic analysis. Skills and experience include synthesis of selective sorbents, advanced materials synthesis and characterization, analytical chemistry and spectroscopic techniques, expertise in water treatment and purification processes, and technoeconomic analysis. Experience with analysis of materials in advanced materials characterization centers (i.e., Synchrotron) is highly welcomed. *Conduct research experiments in a particular field within the pre-determined research scope and methodology. *Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research. *Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results. *Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing. *Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise. *Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed. *May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff. *Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities. *Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well. *Perform related duties based on departmental need.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in chemical engineering, environmental engineering, or a closely related engineering area prior to the appointment.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
*In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline. *May require experience with specialized software programs.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS CONSIDERED
*Experience in data analysis and systems modeling. *Fluency in English (excellent scientific writing skills and oral communication) *The ability to organize and analyze data, and disseminate research findings in peer-reviewed journals and in conferences are essential. *Applicants should be present in the U.S. and be eligible to begin working upon successful background check by the University of Cincinnati and approval by the funding agency.
