About the job
This position is needed to work in a constantly evolving and fast-paced environment, with a team that is implementing and providing security assurance services across the vast Twilio enterprise that includes physical, virtual, and cloud computing resources such as Amazon's EC2. As a Security Engineer Intern you will ship many different projects during your summer and learn to assess, evaluate, prioritize, and remediate security issues affecting many aspects of our environment. You will be a Security Engineer, not just an intern as engineers at Twilio tackle problems across a vast array of technologies and processes.
During your internship, you will be given responsibility to identify and address core security challenges and services that protect our infrastructure, applications, services and our customers. You will be expected to adopt these challenges, learn fast and deliver phenomenal results bringing a willingness to learn and grow, and we will reciprocate with ample opportunity to do just that, in a friendly, fun and exciting startup environment! You will also demonstrate consistent improvement in your security skills, issue-tracking and problem management mentality with the rest of the Twilio Team.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
Work in a small, high-impact, diverse team
Bring in your expertise and experience to empower the your team and make things better in all aspects
Collaborate with the team to take on sophisticated problems in security operations, compliance, incident response and risk management.
Build and operate your team's services in a production environment using a variety of security tools, techniques and supporting processes. Be an advocate for balancing tech debt and maintaining a strong security posture.
Perform detailed and thoughtful security risk and remediation analysis
Develop monitoring & alerting solutions that keeps our system’s security posture in check.
Internalize the set of good habits (development techniques, test driven development, load and performance testing, security, tech debt balance, Agile field etc.) that drives high-end engineering excellence.

Required:
To be working towards a BS, MS, or PhD degree in computer science, computer engineering or a related field.
To have a keen interest in cyber security with several side projects and perhaps are a part of the broader security community.
To have a hungry entrepreneurial and can do spirit, as evidenced by successful interest in learning new technologies, emerging threats, countermeasures and offensive techniques.
Fundamental knowledge of core security practices and principles
A desire to make cybersecurity a long term career.

This role will be remote based in the United States.

In accordance with applicable law, the following represents Twilio's reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation for this role if hired in Colorado.
Salary:
Denver/Boulder Metro: $44 per hour
