Position Summary
The Sr. Professional Sports Research Engineer will evaluate and enhance the performance of innovation and inline concepts and products (footwear, apparel and accessories) via testing, research and/or expert knowledge of athlete performance, biomechanics and engineering.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Collaborate with cross functional partners in delivering pinnacle performance solutions that benefit athletes
Develop research methodology on human subjects and conduct scientific research studies applying engineering principles to identify athlete performance needs and authenticate product benefits
Develop and execute on effective biomechanical test plans in a timely manner while managing competing priorities
Continually improve biomechanical lab capabilities by assessing/acquiring new equipment and developing new methodology/analytical tools to advance cross-functional initiatives, research agenda and process optimization
Effectively communicate (presentations, written and oral) test results and research findings to an audience that may range in technical comprehension and at all levels
Advocate and demonstrate Under Armour’s commitment to the science and engineering process behind its performance innovations and products with internal cross-functional teams and participate in external scientific/engineering conferences or technical meetings as an expert in the fields of footwear, biomechanics, and related engineering disciplines
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
A passion for sports, performance…and sporting goods particularly athletic footwear!
Strong technical skills with biomechanical equipment and data analysis along with a proficiency in collecting biomechanical data on human subjects
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a proficiency to analyze complex test data and distill it into useful information that (footwear) product teams can use and apply to build innovative performance-based products
Desire and ability to take risks, and to take responsibility for results – must be a finisher. Be resourceful, curious and have strong intuition to find and solve problems using insight sand design thinking.
Excellent Mac or PC computer skills; computer programming would be an asset
Must be creative, detail oriented, able to prioritize tasks and work under pressure to successfully meet competing priorities and deadlines
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to effectively present technical information and respond to questions from non-technical groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
Education And / Or Experience
Education: BS in Biomechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Exercise Physiology or similar plus one year of performance athletic sportwear/footwear or product industry experience required, 2 years preferred.
Experience: Solid understanding of footwear design, construction, and materials. Experience in applying biomechanics and engineering principles to product and scientific research
Other Requirements
Location: This individual must reside within commuting distance from Portland office
Return To Work Designation: 2 days a week in-office, the remainder of work week remote.
