About the job
Have you got a knack for explaining technical concepts? Do you want to work closely with big name companies to solve some of their toughest problems? We’re looking for a Principal Solutions Engineer who loves teaching people, solving problems, and designing solutions for our customers. You’d be joining a team of talented solution engineers that love open-source, contributing to their community, and making technology fix business problems. We care deeply about our users and partners, and we judge ourselves on how well we serve them.
We partner with our Account Executives by understanding the needs of the customer, and by positioning great technical solutions to a customer's business challenges. We get excited talking to engineers, product managers, growth marketers, and also know how to distill technical concepts to our buyers. We’re here to make our customers’ lives easier by providing them with the right solutions for their challenges.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
Be an experienced and motivated technologist ready to grow their career.
Continue to develop and deepen your subject matter expertise on the customer needs and requirements, and Twilio’s best in class communications technology.
Lead technical understanding sessions with our customers to uncover their needs and challenges to articulate Twilio’s ability to enable their success.
Take lead on understanding customer technical pains to design, demonstrate and present innovative solutions that unlock business-level gains and solve business challenges.
Act as a trusted advisor to consult with customers and prospects in order to best solve their needs and advocate for our technology solutions.
Learn and understand our technology and then teach and enable others in the business with what you’ve learned.
Work hard internally and externally to add your experience to others and learn from as many cross functional people as possible.
Contribute to the wider knowledge pool at Twilio through blog writing, demo creation, documentation sharing and teaching others.
Partner with Account Executives to execute pre-sales activities including opportunity qualification, demonstrations, Proof-of-Concept, RFP, design documentation, technical presentations and enablement sessions.

Required:
7 years of pre-sales experience selling technical products, or perhaps you’re a software developer who has worked directly with customers in the past in a technical consulting role.
Ability to build a deep understanding of customer requirements and guide towards the technical win.
Broad and deep knowledge of customer business challenges and how we can use technology to solve them.
Creativity - You’ll need to be a problem solver, able to collaborate with others to drive success.
An engaging storyteller - you can gain audience confidence and communicate complex topics to multiple levels of audience.
Experience writing code in one or more of the following areas, multiple areas of experience would be advantageous:
Backend (Java, C#, Node.js, Python or PHP)
Web (JS, React)
Experience with consuming REST APIs
Desired:
Ability to speak in French.
Full-stack development across multiple areas of the above.
Previous experience in Telecommunications, SIP, WebRTC, or Contact Centre would be a plus.
Familiarity with Cloud Platforms, specifically AWS, GCP, Azure etc.
Familiarity with Mobile development, especially for iOS and Android.
You have experience with automation, cloud-native development and skills with a major cloud platform.
Location
This role will be based in Dublin or remotely in Ireland.
Approximately 5% travel to the office for team building/knowledge sharing events, up to 15-20% customer visits, the remainder working remotely.
