OverviewnMechanical Equipment Engineer IIn nIntroduction nMerrick & Company is looking for an experienced Mechanical Equipment Engineer for Los Alamos, NM office to serve as a staff engineer on technology projects for the Department of Energy (DOE).  This group specializes in the design of prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment and custom-designed mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials. This is a full time position.n nThis position is located in Los Alamos, a small community located in the scenic high desert of Northern New Mexico. The ideal candidate will have a passion for designing custom solutions, mentoring a team, and the outdoor life style of Northern New Mexico.n nJob DescriptionnThe Mechanical Engineer II will perform detailed design and analysis of custom equipment, individually and as part of design team. Typical equipment includes containment systems (gloveboxes, hoods), material handling equipment, small scale process piping & equipment, furnace systems, metal working systems (mills, lathes, rolling machines) and pressure vessels.n nScope/Key ResponsibilitynFollow regimented quality assurance / quality control procedures. Detailed design activities include preparation of fabrication drawing packages, equipment datasheets, fabrication specifications, procurement specifications, engineering studies, test plans, and detailed equipment sizing & qualification calculations.  Meets expectations for attendance and punctuality.  Responsibilities include coordinating / leading the detailed phases of a design and working directly with other engineering disciplines.n nRequired Experiencenn Minimum of three (3) years design engineering experience.n Demonstrated capability in the design of custom equipment and/or containment systems, development of design documentation including fabrication drawings, engineering analyses, strength of materials calculations, fabrication and procurement specifications and a basic knowledge in the selection of materials.n Proficient with 3D design software u2013 (PTC Creo or ProE preferred)n Degree Requirements: Bachelor of Sciences in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Accredited Program is required.  Engineering Technology degree will not be considered.n Working knowledge of MS Office products (Word, Excel).n Excellent written communication skillsn Applicant must be able and willing to obtain a DOE clearance.n Minimum of one (1) year experience in glovebox ergonomics preferredn Familiarity with AutoCad a plus.n Experience in the DOE and DOD market segments a plus.n PE License required for internal promotionn Local candidates preferred.n Client projects for this position require US CitizenshipnnPhysical Requirementsnn Requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.n Be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without getting distracted.n May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.n Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.n Meets expectations for attendance and punctuality.n The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.nn nAdditional InformationnApply online only.
