Twilio is looking for a dedicated Engineering manager to lead, manage, and grow the Invoicing team at the heart of the Billing Platform (BP) business unit. As Twilio’s Billing platform focuses on delivering the mission of becoming the trusted platform for enabling Twilio’s growth, we will seek to evolve our customer facing platforms. Our vision is to build an extensible invoicing and taxation platform that enables customers to be accurately and transparently billed, while enabling partners to control taxation policy.
As the Engineering Manager in the Billing Platform (BP) organization, you will own the engineering team that builds the invoicing systems and services for the Billing Platform Business unit.

You have demonstrated ability leading distributed teams of 5 or more. You are first and foremost a people person who has the ability to attract and empower top talent. You are curious, collaborative, humble and have empathy as a key trait.
Having been a developer yourself with 8 years of hands-on software development experience. Experience leading engineers in a high technical and complex operations environment is a must. You have worked with teams to deliver transform live, cloud based production systems, modernising, making them more resilient and extensible.
Having a strong background in distributed systems, and software engineering experience in designing, architecting, developing, and maintaining large-scale, enterprise environments and systems (data, event, payments), you lead teams which build and operate customer critical PaaS or SaaS products.
You are a strategic problem solver and thrive operating in broad scope, from conception through continuous operation of 24x7 services. As a pragmatist, you work with your stakeholders and team to distil complex and ambiguous situations, creating and delivering to realistic timelines.
You are passionate about engineering hygiene and operational excellence. You focus on quality through a metrics-based defect tracking and take pride in delivery.
You have excellent communication skills, ability to be personable yet persistent. You are able to articulate the “why”, engaging your team to their priorities and the understanding their customer impact.
You have expertise with agile methodologies, continuous integration, and test automation.

Curate, lead, and grow and manage a team of passionate engineers. Provide support and guidance that enables the team to self-organise and to achieve sustained high velocity and predictability.
Enable employee career development by providing coaching and mentoring to junior engineers while guiding senior contributors to improve their potential. Provide continuous, timely performance feedback, collaborate with employees on their objectives and provide a clear path for progression through personal development plans.
Setting a high bar for your product, producing high quality, well architected and supportable code. Lead reviews of architecture design.
Own, operate and maintain your team’s services. Employ Agile methodologies to continuously deliver value to customers. Institute and maintain a rotating on-call incident response processes for the team.
Collaborate on roadmaps with Product Managers, Architects and Tech Leads to ensure the team has clear direction and priorities. Ensure there is cross-training and a healthy balance between features and technical debt.
Break down roadblocks and delivering effective communications to partner and dependent teams. Create a culture of continuous improvement through retrospection.
As a member of the Engineering Management team, foster leadership principles and behaviours throughout the organisation to groom the next generation of leaders.
Act as an ambassador for Twilio, recruiting and motivating top talent.
